Our client has a requirement for someone to work on a 3 month contract to do the following...They need an experienced MariaDB Specialist. This role will focus on evaluating the current database environment, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing performance optimizations. You will collaborate with the technology team to ensure the database infrastructure is stable, efficient, and aligned with the demands.Key ResponsibilitiesConduct a comprehensive assessment of the current MariaDB environment (configuration, performance, security, and scalability).Identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies in query performance, indexing, and schema design.Perform database tuning and refactoring to improve throughput and reduce latency.Recommend and implement best practices for high availability, replication, backup/recovery, and monitoring.Work with engineering teams to support application-level integration and ensure optimal interaction.Provide documentation and knowledge transfer to internal teams at the end of the engagement.QualificationsProven expertise with MariaDB (or MySQL at scale) in production environments.Strong experience in database tuning, indexing, query optimization, and schema refactoring.Knowledge of replication, clustering, and HA strategies in MariaDB/MySQL.Experience in high-volume, low-latency environments (financial services or trading systems preferred).Ability to communicate findings and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.Familiarity with Linux environments and performance monitoring tools.Nice to HavePrior experience in capital markets, exchanges, or other financial trading platforms.Knowledge of C++ or Java applications interacting with MariaDB.Experience with cloud deployments or hybrid infrastructures.Engagement DetailsLocation: Toronto, hybrid 2 days in office downtown TorontoDuration: 3 months (potential extension based on project needs).
