Job DescriptionChair and conduct Students’ Council meetings in accordance with Robert’s Rules of Order, and the Standing Orders of Students’ Council. Work with SU administrative unites to ensure that administrative and logistical needs of Students’ Council are met.Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Sit as a non-voting member of Students’ Council (does not have the authority to propose motions to Students’ Council).
  • Chair meetings of Students’ Council and conduct the meetings in accordance with Robert’s Rules of Order, and the Standing Orders of Students’ Council.
  • Facilitate and encourage participation by members of Students' Council.
  • Assist elected representatives and staff with conflict resolution and mediation when necessary, in the context of Students' Council and its committees.
  • Receive, investigate, or redirect complaints when required by UASU governing documents.
  • Work with Discover Governance to look after the budget and logistical needs of Students’ Council.
  • Request a report from the University of Alberta Office of the Registrar and Student Awards each term to confirm that all individuals occupying positions requiring them to be undergraduate students meet all requirements set out in Students’ Union bylaw.
  • Represent Students’ Council before the Discipline, Interpretation and Enforcement Board.
  • Assist in planning orientation sessions and retreats for Students’ Council when necessary.
  • Serve as a resource to members of Students’ Council, and provide timely responses to questions from members regarding Students’ Council matters.
  • Perform other duties as may be required by Students’ Council or Students’ Union bylaw from time to time.
Qualifications:
  • Must be able to work at all Students’ Council meetings.
  • Must be able to respond to questions and concerns in a timely manner.
  • Familiarity with Robert’s Rules of Order and the Standing Orders of Students’ Council would be considered an asset.
  • Must have excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Experience handling confidential materials responsibly would be considered an asset.
  • Conflict resolution and mediation skills would be considered an asset.
