- Assist in the conceptual, preliminary and detailed design of building components, equipment support structures, marine structures, and other non-building structural systems under the guidance of professional engineers
- Assist or lead the analysis of existing structural components for unusual loading conditions during equipment maintenance activities
- Prepare documents including construction drawings, contract specifications, calculations, and engineer’s estimates.
- Conduct condition assessments of various structures and structural components and prepare technical reports and recommendations.
- Assist project managers and liaise with multidisciplinary team members including engineers, planners, architects and technical and administrative support staff
- Perform field work for structural assessments and periodic site inspections during construction as well as preparation of follow up reporting.
- Assist with business development activities, including preparation of proposals, reports and presentations
- Business travel to local heavy industrial facilities as required
- Business travel to other Dillon offices upon request
- Commitment to self-development and ongoing learning and professional development
- Contribute to Dillon’s corporate profile through active participation in professional associations and committees
- A degree in civil engineering with technical electives in structural engineering topics
- Prior consulting experience considered an asset
- Knowledge of relevant structural engineering codes and standards
- Understanding structural analysis and design software such as STAAD, RISA 3D or PCA software, as well as proficiency in current AutoCAD, and building systems software is desirable
- Previous experience in a construction environment would be considered an asset.
- Familiarity in the preliminary and detailed design of buildings, bridges, industrial and marine projects.
- Strong verbal and written communication, organization and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work in a team environment.
- Comfort working safely in an industrial space near heavy machinery and interacting with maintenance personnel on a routine basis
- Ability to read, understand and produce contract drawings in 2D and 3D.
- 0-5 years of relevant experience in structural engineering, with a focus on facilities or building projects.
- Direct experience in the design and analysis of steel and concrete structures will be considered an asset.
