- Co-ordinate the tenant related life cycle for commercial and residential tenants including but not limited to:
- Ensure all pertinent lease details for new tenants is captured and set up in Yardi.
- Review and track tenant ledgers to ensure tenant deposits, recoveries, inducements, rent-free periods, rent deferral plans etc accurately posted and tracked and in accordance with accounting standards.
- Ensure efficient turnover and transition of utility accounts by diligently working with tenants and utility companies. Calculate and invoice utilities for turnover delays.
- Budget, calculate and communicate annual operating cost reconciliation with tenants.
- Be a knowledgeable point of contact for tenant relations and act as an information liaison between tenants and management.
- Work with VP Leasing & Commercial Real Estate on monitoring property tax increases, MPAC reporting and support external property tax consultants with cost reduction efforts.
- Record routine transactions (mortgage payments, recurring journal entries, amortization etc.)
- Support the Controller with month end and year end closing procedures including balance sheet reconciliations for Schlegel Urban Developments Corp. and various related companies.
- Support the Controller with construction financing draws for future construction and land development projects
- Support the Controller with monthly filings and payments for EHT, HST, WSIB, Corporate tax instalments
- Review general ledger monthly for accuracy and variance from budget and investigate variances for reasonableness
- Support the Controller with annual budgeting process
- Prepare various accounting reports and analysis as required
- 7+ years of experience in progressive accounting roles
- CPA designation considered an asset
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel
- Experience with Yardi products an asset, but not required, on-site training will be available
- Property management experience and industry knowledge
- Independent self-starter that enjoys a hands-on small team environment
- Excels at demonstrating attention to detail and achieving accuracy while adhering to deadlines on a consistent basis
- Excellent communication and customer service skills, including tact, diplomacy and judgement to problem solve independently and in collaboration with other team members
- $60,000 - $75,000, adjusted for experience.
