We provide practical environmental solutions for interesting and complex projects across Canada.MH’s Environmental Business Unit is looking for a Senior Terrestrial Ecologist / Team Lead to join our GTA based group to provide leadership within our growing Ecology East Team. The Senior Ecologist / Team Lead provides technical support and aids in the operational direction of the Ecology team which is made up of biologists, arborists, and GIS specialists. This is a key role within our team with a specific focus on serving as a technical leader in the field of terrestrial biology as well as ensuring efficient project delivery, providing technical oversight of team activities, mentoring staff and providing frequent constructive feedback and support across the team.Responsibilities:Provide technical expertise with a strong background in Ecological Land Classification and plant inventories, wetland function and delineation, wildlife and species at risk habitat assessment and surveys, and/or arborist surveys.Provide terrestrial ecology technical expertise and oversight on projects across various industries (transportation, power, development).Oversee data analysis and interpretation and assist with environmental reporting including Environmental Assessments and Environmental Impact Studies.Manage projects and/or lead multi-disciplinary projects by providing senior oversight, supporting technical staff, and reviewing budgets and schedules.Take lead role on multiple projects while maintaining a high degree of attention to detail and organization in a fast-paced consulting environment.Coordinate workload for the team members by assisting the DM with workload distribution and project assignment as well as identifying where additional resources are needed to meet project delivery demands and timelines.Provide regular guidance and mentoring to team members on project delivery needs and expectations and assist the team members in meeting the quality expectations of our clients.Carry out frequent staff check-ins, staff performance reviews, and aid in the teams’ professional development.Work with management team to review, evaluate & respond to RFPs, including preparation of proposals and budgets.Provide advisory support and Quality Control reviews for ecology team members to ensure we are meeting our internal and client quality requirements and expectations.Assist in securing new clients and fostering existing client relationships to help grow our client base and aid in our business development strategies.Qualifications:Bachelor’s or Master's degree in environmental biology (or similar)Minimum 6 years of related work experience leading natural science/ecology and environmental impact assessment projects.Experience in consulting overseeing staff in an advisory role and providing technical leadership and mentorship is preferred.ISA Arborist Certification is considered an asset.MNRF certification in Ecological Land Classification for Southern Ontario, and the Ontario Wetland Evaluation System an assetExperience leading natural science inventories and environmental impact assessment projects across various market sectors including linear infrastructure, power, development, and construction.Working experience liaising with environmental regulators and preparing permit and approval packages (Endangered Species Act, Ontario Regulation 242/08, Conservation Authorities) including the development of compensation/offsetting plans.Demonstrated project management experience.Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.Exceptional organizational skills and ability to develop tracking mechanisms to improve project delivery.Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams) and familiar with project management softwareValid Ontario driver's license and access to a vehicleJob Type: RegularJob Profile: For internal use Ecologist IVMorrison Hershfield, now Stantec is committed to having an inclusive and diverse workforce, with recruitment free of discrimination, ensuring all candidates are given a fair opportunity for employment.
