We offer competitive wages with a full benefits plan, as well as optional RSP plans.The OpportunityWe are currently looking to hire a Sawmill Shift Supervisor for our manufacturing facilities near Slave Lake, Alberta. Job duties include:
  • Supervising employees in a multi-trade environment to provide a high level of maintenance and uptime in all areas of the sawmill
  • Ensuring that assigned work is completed in a safe and efficient manner, ensuring proper job and safety procedures are followed
  • Conducting daily mill inspections to monitor the condition of mill equipment / machinery and coordinates repairs and/or replacement of parts with the maintenance team
  • Making recommendations to improve equipment reliability and cost saving measures
  • Investigating any accidents or incidents involving plant equipment and makes recommendations for equipment and/or procedure redesign to prevent future accidents and/or incidents
  • Assisting in major equipment overhauls and maintenance shutdowns
  • Addressing scheduling issues and conflicts; completes employee time sheets for proper pay
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Production Manager
  • Works Monday - Thursday, rotating days and nights
Working Conditions:
  • Exposed to noise, dust, falling debris, moving machinery, weather extremes, splinters, slipping and tripping hazards
  • Lifting heavy, awkward objects and climbing on equipment may be required
  • Required use of PPE appropriate for the task and working conditions
Must have:
  • A solid work ethic, be eager to learn, and be a team player
  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience working in the lumber industry; 3 years’ experience in sawmills
  • Minimum of 5 years' of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment
  • A mechanical aptitude; millwright experience is an asset
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic computer skills and experience using Microsoft Office
  • Experience managing crews efficiently
