Our mission is to be a trusted choice for our community by delivering a true taste of home through multi-ethnic international delights.Food World Supermarket is seeking an experienced and passionate Sous Chef specializing in Indian cuisine to support daily kitchen operations in a fast-paced, high-volume retail food environment.The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in authentic North and/or South Indian dishes, traditional spice blends, curry preparation, tandoor cooking (if applicable), and ready-to-eat meal production. This role ensures consistency, quality, food safety, and efficient back-of-house operations.Key ResponsibilitiesMenu Development & PromotionsDevelop and enhance Indian menu offerings, including regional specialties (North Indian, South Indian, vegetarian, street food, etc.).Design promotional packages, thali combos, festival specials, and seasonal meal deals.Standardize recipes, spice levels, portion sizes, and presentation guidelines for consistency and cost control.Analyze customer preferences and introduce innovative dishes to increase sales and customer engagement.Food Preparation & ProductionPrepare authentic Indian dishes including curries, biryanis, tandoori items, gravies, vegetarian specialties, and regional delicacies.Develop and maintain standardized recipes for consistent flavor and presentation.Prepare spice blends, marinades, and sauces from scratch.Ensure proper cooking techniques for tandoor, grill, and stovetop preparations.Oversee daily mise en place and batch cooking for retail hot food counters.Maintain freshness, portion control, and food quality standards.Kitchen OperationsAssist the Head Chef in supervising back-of-house operations.Monitor inventory levels and ensure proper stock rotation (FIFO).Control food costs and minimize waste.Ensure proper storage, labeling, and handling of raw and cooked foods.Maintain cleanliness and compliance with food safety regulations.Team Leadership & TrainingSupervise and train kitchen staff on Indian cooking techniques and presentation standards.Coordinate workflow during peak service hours.Maintain discipline, teamwork, and high productivity in the kitchen.Support scheduling and task delegation.Quality & Customer ExperienceEnsure food displays are appealing, fresh, and well-stocked.Maintain consistency in taste and presentation.Uphold the company’s reputation by delivering exceptional food quality and service standards.Qualifications & RequirementsProven experience as a Sous Chef or Senior Cook in Indian cuisine.Strong knowledge of regional Indian cooking styles (North Indian, South Indian, Indo-Chinese, etc.).Experience with high-volume food production.Knowledge of traditional Indian spices and flavor balancing.Familiarity with food safety and sanitation regulations.Strong leadership and organizational skills.Culinary diploma/certification is an asset.Key CompetenciesExpertise in Indian spice profilesLeadership and team coordinationTime management and multitaskingQuality control and consistencyCost management awarenessWhy Join Food World Supermarket?One of the largest grocery retail operations (176,000 sq. ft.)Career advancement within a dynamic retail organizationMake a real impact in delivering quality food and service to the community
