Individually, these are just words—but together, they represent our Values: Care, Commitment, Community, and Confidence.We are currently seeking a Loss Assessment Specialist to join our Property Loss Assessment Unit.About the RoleIn this role, you will contribute to the development and ongoing support of Property Claims and Loss Assessment Unit staff. You’ll ensure alignment with Aviva’s best practices and claims handling procedures. A key aspect of the role involves delivering expert guidance and technical coaching to both loss assessment and field staff—supporting consistent application of appraisal methodologies, enhancing technical capabilities, and promoting best practices in evaluating losses. All work will be carried out efficiently, with a focus on managing indemnity spend and expenses, while maintaining a high standard of customer service.What You’ll DoDeliver technical guidance to internal property claims staff to ensure consistent and accurate assessment of scope.Support onboarding of new property loss assessment and field staff through hands-on technical coaching and mentorship.Conduct regular field ride-alongs to provide in-person support, reinforce best practices, and assess technical proficiency.Contribute to the development and delivery of technical training materials to enhance team capabilities.Review and evaluate work completed by field staff and the Loss Assessment Unit to ensure quality and alignment with internal standards. This includes, but is not limited to, critique and assessment of estimate reviews, scope development, and estimate creation performed by staff.Ensure timely and effective completion of all correspondence, including review of documentation and system notes.Provide exceptional service to our customers, ensuring their needs are met with professionalism and empathy.Occasional travel to other provinces may be required to support onboarding and development of field staff, helping to foster national consistency in technical standards.What You’ll BringMinimum 10 years of residential and commercial property restoration and/or project management experience in a senior position.Minimum 10 years of scope and estimating experience using Xactimate at a senior level.Experience in a leadership, supervisory, or coaching capacity is considered an asset.Strong ability to provide feedback and coaching on scope and estimating methodologies.Deep knowledge of residential/commercial construction and building practices.Solid understanding of claims adjusting practices.Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, balanced with sound decision-making ability.Excellent communication skills to effectively articulate complex issues to senior management, colleagues, business leaders, and external partners.Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.Post-secondary education or progress toward completion of Insurance Institute programs (CIP / FCIP).Strong understanding of IICRC Standards and training materials, including but not limited to:S500 Standard for Professional Water Damage RestorationS700 Standard for Professional Fire and Smoke Damage RestorationWater Damage RestorationApplied Structural DryingCommercial Drying SpecialistFire and Smoke DamageAbility to communicate respectfully and compassionately.Flexibility to accommodate partners across time zones in Canada.What you’ll get:Compelling rewards package including base compensation, eligibility for annual bonus, retirement savings, share plan, health benefits, personal wellness, and volunteer opportunities.Outstanding Career Development opportunities.We’ll support your professional development education.Competitive vacation package with the option to purchase 5 extra days off per year.Employee driven programs focused on gender, LGBTQ+, origins, diversity, and inclusion.Corporate wellness programs to support our employees’ physical and mental health.Please note that we may use AI tools to help us through the recruitment process.
