- Design, evaluate, and analyze components and assemblies for modular and prefabricated construction systems.
- Optimize designs for manufacturability through value engineering, balancing performance, durability, cost, and ease of installation.
- Perform trade-off analyses on alternative materials and systems, supporting recommendations with clear business cases.
- Solve complex engineering challenges using innovative, practical design approaches.
- Produce concise technical analyses and summaries demonstrating component optimization across key criteria.
- Lead technical engagement with suppliers to assess product capabilities, integration requirements, and manufacturing fit.
- Partner with procurement to evaluate pricing, lead times, and supply-chain impacts.
- Develop and maintain product data libraries, including dimensions, performance ratings, and compliance documentation.
- Support product testing and certification to ensure alignment with applicable codes and standards.
- Track and document design changes to support continuous improvement.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Post-secondary education in Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in engineering, product design, construction, or materials research.
- Understanding of DfMA principles and experience balancing cost, performance, and manufacturability.
- Broad knowledge of building materials and systems across multiple scopes, including structural, architectural, exterior, interior, electrical, and mechanical elements.
- Experience with BIM and design tools such as Revit, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar platforms.
- Familiarity with structural, architectural, and MEP considerations in building systems.
- Strong communication skills for engaging in technical, solution-focused discussions with suppliers, fabricators and consultants.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, design-build environment.
- Experience in modular construction, prefabrication, or offsite manufacturing.
- P.Eng designation.
- Experience with finite element analysis (FEA).
- Familiarity with construction product testing, certification and regulatory compliance processes.
