Your role:We are looking for a full-time Corporate Accountant to join our growing Finance & Accounting team. This is an excellent opportunity for a person with experience in financial reporting, high analytical abilities, a willingness to learn, and great interpersonal skills at a global company whose Finance & Accounting function is centralized here in Vancouver. You will report to the Manager, Financial Reporting and work alongside a team of other Corporate and Senior Accountants to support the full cycle accounting of a fast-growing business. The Corporate Accountant plays a key role in the successful, timely, and accurate reporting for financial and tax purposes and in supporting Global Relay's operations internationally.Your job:
  • Assist with preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual consolidated and statutory financial statements as well as reporting packages for key stakeholders
  • Assist in the maintenance of the general ledger, including preparation of monthly reconciliations and perform month-end closing procedures
  • Review bank statements to ensure all entries are accurately recorded in the financial records
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and investigate outstanding reconciling items
  • Perform detailed review over credit card reconciliations, ensuring adherence to corporate policy, accuracy of coding, and completeness of supporting documentation
  • Review proposed fixed assets from Procurement and Accounts Payable teams and prepare fixed asset records, sub-ledgers, and other capital asset tracking for accounting and tax purposes, including tracking capital spent against annual budgets
  • Review the completeness and accuracy of prepaid expenditures
  • Prepare entries for the accounting of debt, financial and operating lease transactions
  • Review journal entries prepared by the Accounts Payable team
  • Identify and respond to queries regarding key variances in the income statement and balance sheet, including horizontal and vertical analyses and comparison of actual results against budget
  • Prepare working papers required for the annual financial statement audits and statutory audits
  • Assist in the research and preparation of accounting memos and analyses to support financial reporting and tax positions
  • Participate in ad hoc tax, accounting and finance projects, analyses and initiatives when required
About you:
  • A minimum 1-2 years in experience in an accounting department
  • Post-secondary education in business, finance, or accounting is an asset
  • Knowledge of Accounting Standards for Private Enterprise (ASPE)
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving abilities
  • Intermediate to advanced level Excel proficiency, with advanced knowledge of Word and PowerPoint
  • Ability to quickly learn and excel with new financial systems, processes, and technology
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and time-manage
  • Impeccable accuracy with numbers and high attention to detail
  • Excellent telephone etiquette and ability to write clear, concise and formal business communications
  • Ability to exercise tact and discretion and to be entrusted with confidential information
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team with minimal supervision
  • Previous experience working in a software-as-a-service (SaaS), technology, or high growth company is an asset
Working conditions:The Corporate Accountant role occasionally requires overtime when there are impending deadlines.
