The QEII Halifax Infirmary Expansion Program (HIEP) is a 1.2 million square foot expansion of the Province of Nova Scotia's existing QEII campus being completed under a complex P3 contract structure. PCL Constructors Canada Inc. is collaborating with multiple partners from across the country to undertake the single largest healthcare infrastructure project considered in Nova Scotia.Here's how a Health, Safety, and Environment Supervisor for our Ottawa office on this project in Halifax, NS, contributes to our team:Responsibilities
  • Implements and supports project HSE plans, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and adherence to safe work practices, while maintaining a strong, proactive presence in the field.
  • Identifies, evaluates, develops and delivers project specific HSE training.
  • Recognizes, evaluates, and advises on hazard identification.
  • Leads and conducts project HSE inspections and monitors the quality and effectiveness of inspections and trade safety plans.
  • Develops and evaluates efficiency of the project emergency response plan, site-specific security requirements and the environmental plan.
  • Monitors and audits trade contractor HSE performance.
  • Participates in on-site investigative processes and evaluating corrective actions taken.
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Coaches, trains and mentors HSE Coordinators, PCL staff, trade contractors and workers.
Qualifications
  • Secondary education (i.e. Bachelor's degree, diploma, or certificate) in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.
  • Holds safety designation.
  • 5 years' experience in a health and safety role in a related industry. Previous experience in a supervisory role an asset.
  • Solid understanding of applicable occupational health, safety, and environmental legislation and HSE processes.
  • Conflict resolution skills, with the ability to problem-solve.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to develop, influence, and maintain effective stakeholder relationships.
  • Strong working knowledge of construction processes and terminology.
  • Solid understanding of Microsoft Office Suite with a strong aptitude for adopting new technology.
Working Conditions
  • Attendance at both open and close shift meetings will be required.
  • Weekend shifts may be required based on project needs, so availability on weekends is essential.
