- Oversee and manage a defined portfolio of delinquent, nonperforming, and distressed large commercial loan accounts.
- Proactively manage the portfolio assessing risks and ensuring all actions and decisions align with established procedures, authority limits, and the organization’s risk appetite.
- Provide subject matter expertise and operational guidance to internal stakeholders on commercial collections processes.
- Manage and lead asset inventory tracking and remarketing activities as required.
- Partner with legal counsel when enforcement or legal support is needed, following established protocols.
- Partner with insurance claims, documentation, and communication with relevant parties.
- Manage and monitor distressed loans and recommend and execute on appropriate actions to support recovery plans.
- Develop recommendations and lead restructuring discussions with borrowers and recommend repayment solutions for approval.
- Conduct financial analysis and collateral evaluations to identify opportunities, develop recommendations that support recovery decisions.
- Prepare routine reports on recovery activities and portfolio status for leadership review.
- Identify opportunities to improve recovery processes and bring forward recommendations.
- Partner with insolvency practitioners and senior leadership when required to review and develop recommendations for recovery actions.
- Respond to internal inquiries to clarify collection processes, documentation, and account status.
- Communicate directly with members regarding restructure of debt, forbearance, account activity and next steps in the recovery process.
- Lead and support audit preparation activities and assist with requests from internal and external auditors.
- Provide operational advice to commercial advisors regarding covenant monitoring and noncompliance issues.
- Conduct site visits or property reviews when required to support valuation or account assessment.
- Partner with cross functional teams to ensure recovery actions align with internal procedures and compliance requirements.
- Maintain positive working relationships with external vendors, legal partners, and service providers involved in recovery efforts.
- Contribute to team collaboration and knowledge sharing to support consistent practices.
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or related field.
- 5–7 years of experience in commercial lending or collections, including experience handling delinquent accounts.
- Advanced knowledge in commercial lending and lending practices.
- Demonstrated expertise in managing a diverse portfolio, including distressed or highrisk commercial loans
- Working expertise and knowledge of collections practices and relevant legislation.
- Extensive experience conducting financial assessments and collateral evaluations and risk assessments.
- Experience providing guidance or informal leadership within a team environment, demonstrating the ability to influence decision making.
- Familiarity with the Personal Property Security Act is an asset.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to engage with multiple stakeholders and provide clear and effective written and verbal communications.
