
WGL - Dispatch Specialist

- Coordinate emergency response to gas related incidents, normally involving emergency services personnel, multiple crews, supervision and other support resources.
- Responsible for the dispatch operation during periods outside of the core business hours; answer questions and provide guidance to other personnel as needed.
- Take direction from Senior Specialist, Operations Dispatch.
- Prioritize emergency and planned work, determine the appropriate response and dispatch resources via the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems to ensure safety and efficiency
- Collaborate with the multiple call centers to set order execution levels and with the employees in the field to recommend appropriate resources/personnel to respond to high order counts and/or emergency situations
- Serve as liaison between customers and field personnel to coordinate access problems and/or emergency situations
- Direct Dispatch Assistants and Dispatch Clerks in the performance of their daily duties and responsibilities
- Perform other duties as assigned
- High School Diploma/GED required
- Associate's Degree in business, engineering, or related field is preferred
- 0-2 Years of related experience in the utility, natural gas or related industry preferred, including experience with fire or police dispatch center operations, emergency response coordination, call center operations, or field operations preferred
- Demonstrated knowledge of Washington Gas service area geography preferred
- Experience using one or more of the following preferred: asset based geographic information systems (GIS), Computer aided dispatch (CAD) systems, work management systems (core and mobile), customer order system (COS), TomTom Work, application extender, order execution schedule, trunked radio systems, safety sector control, service routes and/or field staffing
- Demonstrated working knowledge of Company policies and procedures related to emergency response and planned/routing work preferred
- Proven ability to use computer software and applications, including Microsoft Office, to share, retrieve, research and present business information
- Demonstrated ability to establish rapport and effective working relationships with business partners
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely during stressful situations
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities simultaneously
- Flexibility and ability to adapt to a changing work environment, including the ability to extend working hours and change scheduled shifts
