- Operate different types of on and off-track equipment (Track Stabilizer, Ballast regulator, Hi-Rail Excavator, Speed Swing, Spike Puller, Spike Driver, Backhoe, Boom truck) to support track repair and maintenance activities such as;
- Track Stabilization
- Remove and replace defective ties, rails, turnout components and other track material;
- Correct deviations in track surface, alignment, and gauge
- Safely load and unload railway maintenance materials ie ballast, ties, rail turnout components and other related items as required;
- Cut vegetation for the purpose of achieving desired sight lines;
- Clean ditches to improve drainage;
- Clear snow in the winter time;
- Perform other duties as may be assigned when work does not require machine operation, including track inspection and other track maintenance duties ;
- Travel and work with machine on rail within the guidelines of C.R.O.R., Track Safety and Maintenance Standards, company policies and safe work practices;
- Safely insect and perform field maintenance of equipment;
- Daily administration of logbooks and other required reports.
- Ability to operate mid-sized to heavy equipment;
- Valid driver's license of “G” classification (Ontario) or higher;;
- Previous or current CROR qualification (preferred);
- 2 years of experience operating on-off track heavy equipment in a railway (or similar) environment;
- Operating experience with track component replacement (rail, ties etc), brush cutting, material handling, ditching activities, etc;
- Knowledge of workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures;
- Ability to read/write/speak English;
- Safety minded work ethic;
- Ability to work autonomously and adapt to different situations;
- Must be able endure repetitive physical work activities and lift and carry approximately 60lbs;
- Good understanding in track standards and track safety requirements (asset);
- Willingness and ability to train less experienced operators;
- Basic mechanical aptitude required;
- Safety Training and certifications (asset);
- Available to work on various work cycles with occasional overtime.
