Job summaryThe Regional Director – Ottawa is responsible for the overall leadership, growth, and performance of ABS’s Ottawa office. This role combines business development, operational oversight, team leadership, and client relationship management, with a strong hands-on presence in the local market.
As ABS continues to expand its footprint in Ontario, the Regional Director will play a key entrepreneurial role, establishing the firm as a trusted engineering and environmental consulting partner in the National Capital Region and Eastern Ontario. The position requires a leader who understands the Ontario consulting market, can develop a sustainable pipeline of work, and can translate corporate strategy into local execution and results.Responsabilities:
Regional Leadership & Office Management
  • Provide overall leadership and direction for the Ottawa office, ensuring alignment with ABS’s corporate strategy, values, and performance expectations
  • Oversee day-to-day operations, including staffing, resource planning, utilization, and financial performance
  • Develop and manage the regional budget, monitor KPIs, and ensure profitability and sustainable growth
  • Ensure compliance with ABS policies, quality standards, and health and safety requirements
  • Foster a strong, collaborative, and accountable office culture in a growing team environment
Business Development & Market Expansion
  • Lead regional business development activities across ABS’s core service lines (geotechnical, environmental, materials testing, and related engineering services)
  • Develop and maintain a robust pipeline of opportunities with public and private sector clients, including municipalities, developers, contractors, and institutional clients
  • Leverage existing networks and actively build new relationships in the Ottawa and Eastern Ontario market
  • Act as a senior client contact for key strategic accounts
  • Collaborate with other ABS offices and leaders to support cross-regional pursuits and integrated service offerings
Technical & Project Oversight
  • Provide senior-level oversight and strategic input on major projects, proposals, and client engagements
  • Support project teams in managing risk related to scope, schedule, budget, and client expectations
  • Contribute directly to projects and technical leadership as required (typically 20–40% of time, depending on background and office maturity)
  • Ensure high standards of technical quality and professional practice consistent with Ontario regulations and industry best practices
Talent & Team Development
  • Recruit, develop, and retain top technical and project management talent in the region
  • Coach and mentor project managers and emerging leaders, particularly in client management and business development
  • Conduct performance management activities and support career development planning
  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and performance-driven workplace
Collaboration & Corporate Integration
  • Act as a key link between the Ottawa office and ABS’s broader organization
  • Encourage collaboration across disciplines, offices, and regions
  • Contribute to corporate initiatives, process improvements, and strategic planning as a member of the leadership group

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
  • University degree in Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience, preferably within a consulting engineering or environmental services firm
  • Demonstrated experience in business development, client relationship management, and market growth
  • Strong understanding of the Ontario consulting market, particularly in Ottawa and Eastern Ontario
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and managing office or regional operations
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, KPIs, and operational performance
  • Strong leadership presence with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a results-driven approach
  • Fluency in English required bilingualism (English/French) considered a strong asset
  • Existing regional network of contacts considered a significant asset
