We walk alongside about 1,600 children, youth, families, and people with diverse abilities, with revenues exceeding $70 million.This program provides individualized support to an adult male with a developmental disability, autism, and a seizure disorder. The individual presents with complex needs and benefits from consistent mental health support, structure, and proactive intervention strategies across all shifts. At times, person served can be verbally and physically aggressive, requiring staff to use trauma-informed practices, de-escalation strategies, and a calm, supportive approach.The PositionThe Disability Services Worker (DSW), under supervision of their supervisor, facilitates and monitors education and development programs for purposes of providing individuals in service with physical, behavioural, emotional and social supports/supervision in residence and in the community. DSWs develop relationships and act as a liaison with the community, family members, guardians and employers. This position reports to the Team Leader..Challenging behaviours (verbal/physical aggression) can occur on a daily basis, therefore, only applicants with 2+ years similar experience working with persons with significant mental health concerns, aggressive behaviours and/or trauma will be considered for this position.Scheduling:
Two (2) permanent full-time positions that will each work 40 hours per week:
  • 12 hour shifts from 0800-2000
  • Working a two week rotation
In Your Role You Will
  • Support/supervise clients' complex behavioural, emotional and social needs/development (in the residence & during community activities)
  • Provide client-specific, individualized supports (IPP) in a consistent, healthy & safe environment
  • Use de-escalation techniques to deal with challenging behaviours on a daily basis. May be required to perform physical restraints (holds) on an individual to stop an individual from violent or destructive behaviours that place themselves or others at risk.
  • Assist with household chores (meal prep, cleaning, etc.)
  • Drive person in care (in your own vehicle) within the community.
  • Participate in vocational, recreational, leisure activities.
  • Provide immediate support in crisis situations.
  • Assist in the design, implementation & evaluation of ISPs, program specific policies & procedures.
  • Connect the individual with their family, friends & community.
  • Administer medication, first aid if/when necessary.

  • Work well in an environment with potential for aggression/violence
  • MUST HAVE 2 years experience working with individuals with significant mental health concerns, aggressive behaviours and/or trauma.
  • High School Diploma/GED. Prefer a Certificate, Diploma or Degree - Disability Service Worker, Social Work, Special Education or related field
  • Valid class 5 driver license with clear driving abstract and reliable vehicle
  • Current First Aid/CPR and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certification (NVCI or CPI)
  • Training in Trauma Informed Practice, Medication Administration, Suicide Intervention, Managing Aggressive Behaviour (UMAB), Conflict Resolution, Food Safe
  • Confident & able to function in a crisis
