And we’re looking for problem solvers, high achievers, and visionaries to help us.Join us for a chance to grow professionally at one of the world’s top design firms while building our clean energy future.Your OpportunityOur hydro team is seeking a colleague who enjoys understanding client needs and matching them with Stantec’s service offerings to fill the role of Hydropower Engineer.This role will function as a “seller/doer” and has experience with design, construction and/or operation of dams, spillways, intake structures, water conveyances and powerhouses and/or the associated equipment of gates, valves, turbine-generator units and balance of plant. Further, experience with managing people and projects is required.If you feel a passion for waterpower, please apply and convince us that you are the right person for our team.Your Key ResponsibilitiesStrengthen TeamObserve and personify safety and quality cultureWith high-level guidance but responsible for approach and execution, develop solutions to a variety of diverse engineering problems involving hydropower structures or equipmentPerform field support during installation and construction through monitoring for quality control and consistency with the design specificationsPrepare written communications regarding design basis, options analyses, schedule and cost estimatingDevelop design drawings and technical specifications for construction and installation servicesMotivate team to work together efficiently and mitigate team conflictAssist in resource management processes, recruitment, career development, succession planning, coaching and mentoringUnderstand skills, capabilities and opportunities for collaboration in Stantec’s business lines across Canada, as well as support international collaboration when required.Understand the complexity of a given client project and match with appropriate scope of work, level of effort and staffingImprove EffectivenessWork collaboratively with Project Engineers and Project Managers to assist in planning, design, and preparation of drawings, technical specifications, and capital cost estimates in connection with a variety of engineering projectsCommunicate with other team members and become familiar with Stantec standardsContribute to the development and execution of the sector business strategyMeet HSSE goals and targetsCommunicate at ease and habitually across the corporate hierarchyUnderstand project management principles and apply consistently according to Stantec 10-Step processUnderstand and apply appropriately our risk review processBe able to scale administrative process to size and type of application and identify potential for improvementsGrow BusinessSupport local business development pursuitsBalance time on projects with pursuit and positioning of new business opportunitiesUnderstand hydro industry, changing needs and playersCommunicate comfortably with clients across their hierarchy from boardroom to shop floor – note that this may require occasional site travelKnow existing clients, the issues they may need help with and their staffMaintain client relationships that are aimed at satisfied customers and repeat businessRecognize where Stantec can be of value to clientsPromote BrandKnow and relate with relevant electrical utilities, industry associations, academic institutions and training programsKnow Stantec’s differentiators and be able to explain benefits to clientsYour Capabilities and CredentialsEngineer with a degree in structural engineering or mechanical engineering from an accredited university. Post graduate degree in engineering or business application would be an assetProfessional designation obtained in at least one Canadian Province (P.Eng.)Minimum of 10 years’ experience with hydroelectric facilities preferably within a consulting engineering or utility environmentKnowledge of a variety of software programs used in engineering analysis and design; proficient in Microsoft Office SuiteProject management experience with demonstrated organizational and communication skills on small to medium multi-disciplinary projectsPosition will have flexibility with working from home and/or office attendance in Dartmouth (NS). Affiliation with one of our other Atlantic offices in Fredericton (NB), Moncton (NB) or St. John’s (NL) would be an alternative. Occasional travel to client sites will be required.Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
