Our teams in Vancouver support a breadth of Dental Practice Management systems, including Axium Academic, Axium Ascend, Power Practice and Dentrix Ascend.About the OpportunityWe are looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join our Ascend Specialty domain. This is a hands-on technical leadership role where you will help shape the architecture, improve engineering practices, and modernize key parts of our platform.You will partner closely with the Engineering Manager and Director of Engineering to turn technical strategy into scalable, production-ready systems. This role is ideal for an engineer who leads by example, enjoys solving complex architectural challenges, and is passionate about modern engineering practices, including AI-assisted development.At Henry Schein One Canada, you will be part of a culture that embraces ownership, collaboration, and creativity in a flexible, high-performing environment.AvailabilityThis is a hybrid role, with one to two days in office, to facilitate brainstorming and team building. Our office is located across from Guildford Mall, in Surrey, BC.Key ResponsibilitiesOwn the technical health and evolution of the Ascend Specialty codebaseLead by example through hands-on development and strong engineering practicesDesign and implement scalable solutions for complex clinical workflowsDrive modernization initiatives, including framework migrations and backend improvementsMentor engineers through code reviews, pairing, and architectural guidanceEnsure systems are secure, reliable, and performant in a high-traffic clinical environmentCollaborate with Engineering, Product, and leadership to align technical execution with business goalsQualifications & RequirementsBachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience8+ years of progressive software development experienceProven experience designing and delivering scalable web applicationsDeep expertise in at least one area of software engineering (frontend, backend, or distributed systems)Experience with modern SPA frameworks (React, Angular, Vue.js, or Ember.js)Strong experience with APIs, databases, and cloud-based environmentsExperience modernizing systems or leading technical initiativesInterest or experience with AI-assisted development tools is an assetExcellent communication and collaboration skillsSelf-motivated, pragmatic, and delivery-focusedOur Technologies & ToolsJava, Groovy, Grails, Node.jsReact (modernization from Ember)Kafka, RabbitMQPostgres, Redis, MS SQLAWS, KubernetesJira, DynatraceGitLab, CursorOur Recruiting ProcessIntro/screening call with Talent Acquisition team memberShort online behavioural and cognitive assessmentInterview with Hiring ManagerTechnical and Team Panel InterviewCompensation & BenefitsThe posted range for this position is between $155,000 CAD – $195,000 CAD, which is the expected starting base salary range for an employee who is new to the role to fully proficient and experienced in the role.
