Watch the video below to learn more about STARS as you begin to explore this amazing opportunity within our organization, you have to be great to work here, we can't wait to meet you -Donor Relations & Development Officer (1.0 FTE) - Calgary BaseIs this challenge for you?The Donor Relations and Development Officer will support the Foundation’s efforts to raise critical funds for mission operations. This individual will take the lead on some new initiatives around strategic growth and donor relations expansion. This individual is responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major gifts and sponsorships to the foundation. This will include identification of new prospects as well as growing current donor relationships. It is expected that this role meets or exceeds aggressive performance targets. A robust established network is needed.Do you have what it takes?
  • Meets or exceeds activity targets (discovery calls, face to face meetings, submitted proposals, successful solicitations) as mutually agreed upon with Leader;
  • Meets or exceeds financial objectives and achieve long-term fund-raising goals of the major gift portfolio which includes a mix of individual and corporate donors;
  • Desire and ability to build pipeline through discovery activity;
  • Identifies the highest-potential prospects and develops and implements cultivation strategies to turn prospects into STARS supporters;
  • Demonstrate the ability to secure six figure gifts;
  • Work with the Leader to develop a new strategic plan for donor growth and prospect expansion of revenue in Alberta and Western Canada funds;
  • Preparation and delivery of high-quality proposals, presentations and other communication materials to prospective donors and sponsors;
  • Using relationship fundraising strategies, develops and implements comprehensive plans for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding gifts for the assigned donor portfolio, including upgrading existing donors;
  • Support of other fundraising activities such as internal and external events, as agreed upon with Leader;
  • Strong decision making, problem solving and research skills;
  • Maintain accurate, professional, and current Raiser’s Edge records, actions, and reports;
  • Maintain a high degree of motivation and superior work ethic consistent with the employment philosophy of the Foundation;
  • Participate actively as a member an integrated development team remaining informed of donor relations and development best practices.
Education and Experience
  • 3-5 years in a sales or fundraising and development role;
  • Post secondary degree an asset in a related field, a combination of education and experience will be acceptable;
  • Demonstrated track record in soliciting major gifts from corporations, foundations, and individuals;
  • Exceeded annual revenue targets year over year;
  • Drive, enthusiasm, and energy;
  • Adherence to a high ethical standard;
  • Strong decision making, problem solving and research skills;
  • An aptitude for building strong, long-lasting relationships;
  • Ability to take initiative and work both independently and as part of a team;
  • Excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills, tact, and diplomacy;
  • Experience with prospect management database software, particularly Raiser’s Edge, is considered an asset.
