Key responsibilities include identifying community recreation needs and interests, developing and delivering recreation opportunities which meet these needs and interests, maintaining and operating recreational and cultural facilities to provide a setting for these activities, and managing the provision of space to external community providers and groups.Under the general guidance and direction of the Recreation Programmer, and reporting to the Recreation Supervisor, the Senior Youth Program Leader (PT) position is responsible for overseeing youth drop in programs located at the City of Barrie’s Youth Centres. Specifically, this position monitors youth drop in programs, leads activities and/or special events and provides guidance and leadership to Youth Program Leaders.   • Secondary School Diploma
  • HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development Certificate from HIGH FIVE® National within three (3) months of hire
Experience
  • Six (6) months of cumulative part-time experience or three (3) months of full-time experience working with children and/or youth ages nine (9) and up performing duties related to the above mentioned major responsibilities
Knowledge/Skill/Ability
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a high standard of public relations at all times
  • Demonstrated ability to perform in a manner which is consistent with corporate goals, vision, mission and values
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with difficult youth, diffuse emotionally-charged situations and resolve issues in a diplomatic and professional manner
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise discretion and judgment when handling confidential, sensitive, and/or controversial information
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Basic oral and written communication, interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends and/or holidays, as required
Conditions of Employment
  • Standard First Aid, CPR Level C, and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Certifications
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Checks
