- Work under the direction of the Manager, Plant Operations to operate, repair and maintain a high pressure (600psig+), high temperature (750 F Superheat), primary combined cycle, parallel co-generation thermal Power Plant with currently installed capacity of 2890 boiler horsepower, as required by the Boiler and Pressure Vessel Safety Act and Regulations to produce steam and primary power; including the operations of boilers, feed water pumps, turbines, power distribution centres and related auxiliary equipment which changes as Plant operating and site strategies evolve, and currently includes:
- 600 psig Boilers
- 150 psig Boilers
- 1MW 4160 volt turbo-generators
- 1000 psig feed water pumps
- (225 KW and 500 KW) diesel generators
- 440V, 4160V and 12800V transformers and switchgear
- 1600KW stand-by generators
- Provides work direction to Assistant Shift Engineers by coordinating work activities, providing guidance/technical advice, training and orientation.
- Grade 12 plus five years' recent related experience in a first class industrial plant.
- Second (2nd) Class Power Engineer's Certificate of Competency.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Ability to deal with effectively with others.
- Ability to read and interpret single line drawings.
- Ability to organize work.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
