Senior Tailings Practitioner - Geotechnical
- Mississauga, ON
- Permanent
- Full-time
- Carry out a tailings storage facility design project by completing and/or guiding the required geotechnical engineering analysis and coordinating a multi-discipline team. The study level can range from conceptual, pre-feasibility, feasibility, detailed engineering or construction.
- Prepare and review trade-off studies, feasibility to detailed engineering studies, engineering reports, drawings and specifications for mine waste disposal.
- Support the team in identifying and solving geotechnical issues. A common example for a practitioner with geotechnical engineering background is to have a reasoned insight of settlements, liquefaction potential, slope stabilization, pore pressure generation, excavation and backfilling procedures, and related problems.
- Be able to carry out slope stability and seepage analysis and understand contractive (liquefaction) behavior under static and earthquake loading scenarios. Proficient in geotechnical modeling software, such as SLOPE/W, SEEP/W and SIGMA/W. Support the team in coordinating geotechnical models of tailings storage facilities, especially with limit equilibrium and dynamic deformation under a variety of loading conditions.
- Develop and manage field and laboratory investigation programs to support the design of tailings storage facilities.
- Develop and manage geotechnical instrumentation monitoring programs.
- Support field operations through supervision, troubleshooting and monitoring. A practitioner with geotechnical engineering background would require experience in drilling, carrying out and understanding in situ tests, piezocone soundings, reconnaissance trenches, as well as tailings storage facility construction, subgrade compaction assessment, and installation of geosynthetics, etc.
