As our growth creates new career opportunities, likely there is the right one for you!Job Description:Position SummaryReporting to the Regional Ready Mix Supervisor, the Batchman will oversee and coordinate the day to day concrete batching operations and overall site and plant operations. This role will be responsible for ensuring the accurate mixing and production of high-quality concrete batches according to specifications and industry standards. The Batchman will play a critical role in maintaining the efficiency and effectiveness of our concrete production process.Key ResponsibilitiesHealth, Safety & Environment:
  • Be a role model for the desired HSE standards to be maintained by setting a good example for others to follow.
  • Be familiar with the company HSE Policy, Environmental Management Policy, and Injury Management Policy, and conduct all work in accordance with the principles expressed in these documents.
  • Comply with, and enforce compliance with HSE general rules, policies, practices and procedures, and legal requirements.
  • Assist in completing Project Hazard Assessments when required for new work, including considering Living Goal Zero requirements.
  • When required for High-Risk Work, complete Job Hazard Assessment (JHA) and use the JHA to provide input into written work procedures. This should be done with participation by a worker representative and must consider the Living Goal Zero requirements.
  • Participate in weekly Toolbox Safety Talks and provide support and feedback to site/crew supervisors for Toolbox Safety Talks.
  • Ensure regular planned inspections, document inspection results on an Inspection Report, and provide feedback to the Regional Ready Mix Supervisor for corrective actions to correct all hazards identified.
Dispatching & Sales:
  • Pleasant telephone demeanor and excellent customer service skills.
  • Treats customers in a professional and courteous manner to create excellence in customer satisfaction and customer retention.
  • Represents the Company professionally in the community and promotes ongoing business relationships with customers and suppliers.
  • Takes accurate concrete orders and asks all the right questions to minimize any mistakes with the concrete order and keeps records.
  • Upsell customers with our value-added products to build trust and increase profitability.
  • Schedules all orders as such to maximize productivity and manpower while keeping overtime to a minimum.
  • Provides retail and contractor prices on phone as required.
  • Ensure all orders have payment secured or know of their current account status.
  • Review all tickets, make any necessary changes in Command to customer invoice preliminary reports and ensure that preliminary report is correct, legible, and accurate for invoicing.
  • Understand markets, communicates new opportunities, market updates and missed opportunities to their direct supervisor.
Education, Training and Certifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Occupational First Aide Level 1
  • Valid Class 3 drivers' license is an asset (Class 1 preferred)
Experience and Knowledge Required for the role
  • Proven experience as a Ready Mix Batchman or similar role.
  • Experience in operating and maintaining concrete batching equipment an asset.
  • Strong understanding of concrete production processes, material properties and mix designs.
  • Proven experience working with both structured and unstructured organizations and matrixed environments.
  • Possesses basic computer skills and a willingness to adapt and learn new software and technologies utilized in the Batchman role.
  • Displays strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and excels in working collaboratively as a team player.

Working Conditions
  • Overtime as required; willing to work extended hours including nights and weekends.
  • Use of Personal Protection Equipment is required.
  • Must comply with the company's drug and alcohol testing requirements.
  • Manual dexterity required to use computer and peripherals.
Compensation DataThis is a unionized position.During the three-month probationary period, the hourly wage is 85% of the standard rate, which equates to $34.30/hour.
