- Minimum 5 years recent extensive work experience in specialized public health laboratory medicine with a focus on their designated department is required.
- Extensive discipline-related experience in advanced techniques and in specific duties required or training and experience sufficient to perform these duties.
- Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience and/or administrative experience is required.
- Laboratory Information System experience is required.
- Labware LIMS LIS experience is desired.
- Graduate of an approved Medical Laboratory Technology program is required. Successful completion of the CMLTM. Prior Learning Assessment process for a discipline specialty, as deemed by the Employer, may also be considered.
- Courses related to supervision, communication, and administration/personnel policies/practices, to ensure effective and efficient provision of services desired.
- B.Sc. in a related field is desired.
- Current licensure or eligible for licensure with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Manitoba (CMLTM) required.
- Current membership with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Sciences (CSMLS) considered an asset.
- Thorough, current knowledge of the technical and theoretical aspects of the subsections within the area is required.
- Knowledge and understanding of troubleshooting of equipment and testing procedures is required.
- Knowledge and understanding of Workplace Health and Safety requirements.
- Knowledge and understanding of privacy regulations are required.
- Knowledge and understanding of quality management and quality improvement are required.
- Knowledge and understanding of CAP laboratory accreditation requirements is required.
- Knowledge and understanding of the functions of a public health laboratory is required.
- Computer experience using Microsoft Office essential (e.g. Word, Outlook, Excel) is required.
- Strong problem-solving ability and analytical skills are required.
- Ability to apply technical knowledge to interpretation of results, troubleshooting and assessing of methods.
- Leadership skills to coordinate workflow, supervise and promote teamwork.
- Ability to work both independently and as a team member.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions precisely with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, are required to handle professionally all lab communications and interactions with other health care professionals at various levels from both within and outside of the facility.
- Ability to adapt to continually changing work environment is required.
- Ability to meet multiple deadlines/priorities and handle pressure to ensure a high degree of accuracy and efficiency is required.
- Ability to prepare reports and lectures is required.
- Excellent managerial/administrative skills is required.
- Ability to perform duties as described.
- Working shifts, weekends, and holidays may be required.
- Participating in standby and callback duty may be required.
