Starting at $108,100/year · Relocation assistance availableThe Municipal Engineer II (Intermediate) plays a key role in shaping the growth and development of our community. As part of the Planning & Development team, you'll support and guide land development and municipal infrastructure projects, ensuring they are designed, approved, and delivered to high standards that serve our residents today and into the future. - Support land development across all stages, from concept planning to construction and final acceptance
- Serve as Chairperson of the Technical Coordinating Committee, leading meetings and facilitating collaboration among internal and external technical partners
- Review and provide engineering input and approvals for Area Structure Plans, Conceptual Schemes, and Development Permits
- Negotiate and prepare Service and Development Agreements, ensuring alignment with City standards and requirements
- Collaborate with developers, consultants, and internal teams to resolve technical challenges and keep projects moving forward
- Conduct engineering analysis, designs, cost estimates, and contract administration for municipal infrastructure projects
- Help maintain and evolve municipal engineering standards, policies, and best practices
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, environmental requirements, and safety standards
- Provide technical guidance and support to internal partners, external agencies, and the public
- Strong knowledge of municipal civil engineering principles, including roads, utilities, stormwater systems, and land development
- Experience reviewing development applications and supporting infrastructure projects through design and construction
- Understanding of relevant legislation, regulations, and municipal standards
- Project management experience, including contract preparation and administration
- Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complex technical challenges
- Ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment and decision-making
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical information to diverse audiences
- A collaborative mindset, with a focus on building relationships and working effectively across teams
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, engineering design tools, and GIS applications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized institution
- Professional Membership (or eligibility) with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA)
- Minimum of five (5) years of related experience as a Professional Engineer
- Valid Class 5 Alberta driver's license with an acceptable driving record
- A combination of relevant training and experience may be considered
- This position has been identified as Safety Sensitive and requires the completion of a satisfactory pre-employment drug screen, which includes testing for cannabis use.
