
Law Clerk - Commercial Litigation

- Manage complex litigation files from initial pleadings to trial and enforcement stages with minimal supervision
- Prepare correspondence and court documents, including pleadings, judgments, orders, motion materials and affidavits of documents.
- Prepare litigation briefs, summaries of evidence, and bill of costs.
- Review and summarize transcripts of examinations for discovery for undertakings, refusals and assembly of answers to undertakings.
- Coordinate large-scale document productions, including managing e-discovery platforms, liaising with the internal e-Discovery team, performing database searches.
- Draft and manage undertakings charts, refusals charts, and track responses and follow-up requirements.
- Maintain and monitor litigation calendars and critical deadlines (e.g., undertakings, limitation periods, and procedural timelines).
- Act as a point of contact with clients, experts, court personnel, and opposing counsel on procedural and logistical matters.
- Train and mentor junior clerks or legal assistants and provide oversight on procedural file management.
- Other duties as required.
- Completion of accredited Law Clerk program.
- 4 or more years of direct and practical experience working in commercial litigation.
- In-depth knowledge of the Ontario Rules of Civil Procedure and legal documentation and terminology
- Exceptional technical skills, including experience in iManage, MS Word, Excel, ACL, CaseLines, and / or other litigation support software.
- Ability to deal with changing priorities and busy practices, while adhering to strict deadlines.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication and client service skills.
- Professionalism and ability to take accountability for providing timely and accurate responses to inquiries from internal and external stakeholders.
- Confident and dependable with strong initiative and the ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented atmosphere.
- Previous in Relativity an asset.
