Reporting to Dalhousie University's Co-Principal Investigators (PIs), the Project Administrator will support Dalhousie University's participation in the Qanittaq Clean Arctic Shipping Initiative by coordinating and facilitating research activities, supporting knowledge mobilization, collaborating with research partners, and managing project personnel and financial resources, to achieve the objectives of the Initiative.
Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain sound working knowledge of Funder, major institutional partners, Institutional (Dalhousie, MUN and ICC) and Project policies, procedures, and current issues to coordinate the efficient daily operations of the project and relieve the Co-Principal Investigators of standard administrative matters.
  • Collaborate with partner institutions and foster relationships to advance the goals of the Initiative.
  • Coordinate the logistical organization of project programming, including workshops, seminars, the publication of open access journals and books, and website and social media platforms.
  • Manage Dalhousie University's annual project budget, ensuring financial sustainability and accountability.
  • Coordinate hiring of project personnel (Research Assistants, Post-Doc Fellows) and graduate student funding (Masters and PhD) with appropriate Dalhousie units.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports, narrative and financial.
NoteThe successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.Occasional local and national travel is required (approximately 1-2 times per year). Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to meet operational requirements.
Required Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree with 5 years of related experience.
  • Proficient in using financial management tools (e.g., Excel, Chrome River), information management (e.g., Dropbox, Google, OneDrive), conferencing (MS Teams, Zoom, Webex), document preparation (Word, Adobe, PowerPoint) and research dissemination platforms (SSRN, Academic.edu, Research Gate, Google Scholar, Scopus, etc.).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to problem-solve, with demonstrated experience of multicultural competence and sensitivity to confidential situations.
Assets
  • Masters of Business or Public Administration or equivalent field and level of education.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with projects concerning oceans/shipping/Indigenous issues.
  • Experience working directly with or for Inuit communities.
  • Connections to, and/or lived experience as a member of these communities.
