The department's branches work together as a team to deliver a high standard of customer service and to ensure the effective, efficient and safe performance of the operation, development and maintenance of campus buildings.The Supervisor, Custodial Services supports Facilities Management by overseeing the day-to-day custodial operations across campus facilities. Reporting to the Manager, Interior Services, this role provides direct supervision to custodial staff, ensures high standards of cleanliness and sanitation, and supports the effective use of staff, equipment, and materials.The Supervisor is responsible for scheduling, training, and performance management, as well as monitoring service quality and compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations and UVic standards. The role also manages supplies and inventory, supports sustainability and waste reduction initiatives, and contributes to long-term planning for custodial services.Job RequirementsSkills:
  • Demonstrated ability to show professionalism to create positive cooperative working relationships through the effective use of interpersonal skills in all interactions
  • Effective verbal and written communication and listening skills.
  • Ability to accurately follow instructions.
  • Ability to lead and participate in team building initiatives and events.

  • Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve cleaning challenges and see them through to completion.

  • Ability to operate and demonstrate all hand and power cleaning tools.
  • Ability to work any recognized shift, including weekends, and attend meetings or training that may occur outside of regular shift hours.
  • Good physical health required for constant mobility, bending, lifting and reaching.
Specialized Knowledge/Education:
  • Valid BC driver's license
  • Certification in a commercial cleaning program or equivalent level of experience.
  • Supervisory experience or an equivalent level of education.
  • Operational knowledge of computers and computer software including MS Office Suite software, Adobe Software.
  • Expertise in operation and demonstration of commercial cleaning equipment and tools
  • Knowledge and understanding of the chemistry of cleaning including knowledge of materials, methods and equipment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of environmentally responsible cleaning techniques.
  • Knowledge of university Enterprise software (e.g. FMIS) is an asset.
Experience:
  • A minimum of five years' commercial cleaning experience.
  • A minimum of three years supervising a staff of 30 or more people, preferably in a unionized environment.
  • A minimum of five years handling customer service interactions.
