- Develop and maintain the school's archival collection, including documents, photographs, artifacts, and digital records.
- Assess and acquire new materials relevant to the school's history and mission.
- Establish and uphold archival policies and procedures to guide collection management, access, and preservation.
- Stay current with archival standards and best practices.
- Implement preservation techniques to ensure the longevity of physical and digital records.
- Monitor environmental conditions and implement measures to protect archival materials from damage and ensure proper storage conditions.
- Classify and catalog archival materials using appropriate standards and software.
- Create and maintain finding aids to facilitate access to the collection.
- Assist students, faculty, and alumni in accessing archival materials for research and educational purposes.
- Conduct tours and presentations to promote awareness of the archives.
- Perform genealogical and historical research to verify legacy connections and school history for various departments.
- Develop and implement programs to educate the school community about the importance of archives and local history.
- Collaborate with teachers and departments to integrate archival resources into the curriculum.
- Collaborate with different school departments to ensure valuable historical materials are transferred to the archives.
- Act as the primary respondent on archival research questions from the Havergal community and the public.
- Actively promote the heritage of the school by weaving historical narratives into current school life and events.
- Curate and develop new displays that promote the school's history and culture. A creative approach to making history engaging for students and a passion for storytelling
- Help the school community connect with and understand its traditions, values, and identity through historical narratives and objects.
- Support Advancement and Old Girl/Alum events by providing archival information/documents and preparing displays for these events.
- Support the Admission department with requests regarding applicants' parents, create composite pictures for the Marguerites and memory boards for Marguerite events.
- Manage the digitization of archival materials to enhance accessibility and preservation.
- Oversee the development and maintenance of an online archival database to ensure the preservation of born-digital materials like emails, websites and digital photographs.
- Master's degree in Archival Studies, Library Science, History, or a related field.
- Minimum three years' experience in professional archival management, including preservation techniques and digital archiving.
- Experience cataloguing and organizing a collection of different media types.
- Strong computer experience (Google suite, Word, Excel) and analytical skills.
- Experience in using an archival database.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a school environment.
- Ability to work and communicate with a variety of stakeholders within the school environment.
- Experience working with volunteers.
- Knowledge of Canadian archival standards and practices is an asset.
- Experience in an educational setting is an asset.
