Crane Operator - Boom Truck

- Perform pre-operational inspection, safety checks, test lifts and calculate crane capacities and weight to prepare for rigging and hoisting.
- Communicate with ground crews using hand signals and voice communication.
- Identify, and communicate with the Area Manager, the causes of errors and defects in the crane including issues with cables, pulleys and grappling devices.
- Before lifting heavy loads, ensure that blocks and outriggers are properly placed to prevent capsizing.
- Perform required due diligence and use gestures and hand signals when installing, positioning, and moving material, equipment or machinery.
- When required, bolt boom sections together to extend boom for higher lifting
- Ensure precision and accuracy and proper judgement while manipulating or depressing controls to regulate speed and direction of crane and hoist movement.
- Ensure weights are checked against lifting capacities before preparing for rigging and hoisting.
- Ability to read and interpret load charts and blueprints.
- Manipulate different levers and pedals to rotate the crane; raise and lower boom and one or more lines.
- Flexibility to work in various weather conditions and different work schedules, including weekends and overtime if required
- Knowledge of DOT rules and regulations
- Journeyman Crane Operator – Boom Truck ticket is required
- Minimum 5 years’ practical work experience operating boom truck
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Must have or be able to complete End-user Fall Arrest certification
- Must meet the pre-access drug and alcohol testing requirement
- Equipment operator certificate also considered an asset (excavator, skid steer and zoom boom)
