- Carry out preliminary and detail design of bridges, culverts, retaining walls and other civil structures on assignments of moderate size, scope, diversity and/or complexity for all levels of government
- Prepare engineering drawings
- Prepare form of tenders, quantity take-offs and construction cost estimates
- Check designs and drawings
- Prepare specifications and contract documents
- Review shop drawings
- Carry out contract administration and construction supervision
- Prepare reports and proposals
- Undertake bridge inspections, assessments, and reports
- Set up project meetings, record meeting minutes, and maintain action item list
- May be required to provide technical guidance and direction to support staff, contractors, and/or vendors
- Demonstrates sound written, verbal, interpersonal, analytical and application skills
- Works well under pressure to meet project deadlines
- Carry out other duties as assigned
- A good team player.
- University degree in Civil Engineering
- Professional Engineer with 5-10 years demonstrated experience in the area of structural design and bridge engineering in Canada
- Superior technical understanding, design abilities, and current on bridge technologies
- Working knowledge of structural analysis software used in bridge design
- Specific areas of expertise required are in the planning, preliminary and detail design, and construction of bridges of standard and complex geometry, and culverts. A thorough knowledge of current Canadian design codes and standards is essential
- Experience with inspection, assessment and rehabilitation of existing structures
- Experience with contract administration and construction supervision
- Experienced in report and proposal writing
- Effective Communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work on several projects at a time with multiple design teams
- A committed team player with a willingness to help others and collaborate with team members
- A valid driver's license
