DEFINITION:Under the direction of the Responsible Adult - School Aged Program Coordinator or delegate, the responsible adult (school aged program) assists in the day-to-day operations of the City of Terrace After School Childcare Program.EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:The main responsibilities of the Childcare Provider (responsible adults) in the After School Care program include: * Supervision: Ensure that children are safe and adequately supervised during their time in the program. This includes monitoring their activities, assisting with homework, and organizing age-appropriate recreational and educational activities;
  • Emotional Support: Provide emotional support and guidance to children, fostering a positive and inclusive environment. Encourage social interactions and help children develop positive relationships with their peers;
  • Nutritional Care: Help facilitate snacks or meals provided during the program, ensuring that children receive appropriate nutrition;
  • Communication: Maintain open and effective communication with parents or guardians regarding the child's progress, activities, and any concerns or issues that may arise;
  • Safety and Emergency Preparedness: Handle any accidents or medical situations that may occur. Ensure that the program environment is safe, following all necessary safety protocols and regulations;
  • Participate as a team member including supporting staff training and mentoring activities;
  • Participate in staff meetings and professional development seminars.
  • Comply with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act ? Child Care Licensing Regulation;
  • Other related duties as required.
REQUIRED TRAINING, EDUCATION, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE: * Be at least 19 years of age;
  • Possess the Responsible Adult Certificate;
  • Secondary school graduation, plus completion of or a combination of courses, of at least 20 hours duration in child development, guidance, health and safety, or nutrition;
  • Minimum of at least 3 months of recent and relevant work experience/experience working with children in a structure setting;
  • Clear criminal record check;
  • Valid Child Safe First Aid Certification or be willing to complete this training;
  • Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing;
  • Ability to work harmoniously and effectively with children, fellow employees, and the general public;
  • BC Class 4 Unrestricted Drivers License considered an asset;
