Additionally, ensuring that Aecon leverages the latest available technologies to remain competitive in the marketplace will provide further confidence and opportunities for future business development. The welding center of excellence is a self-managed department which operates as a dedicated body within Aecon to be able to provide internal welding services to Aecon, as well as contract services to external customers.What You'll Do Here
- Oversee technical aspects of projects and initiatives undertaken by the welding COE department, specifically with regards to welding and manufacturing
- Manage, implement, and provide technical guidance to execute procedure qualification records for ASME, CWB and/or AWS welding codes
- Review and produce technical documentation in relation to welding fabrication
- Assist in developing, troubleshooting, designing, testing and training with various types of welding processes and pieces of equipment
- Assist with Aecon Nuclear welding school activities and classes (theoretical and hands on)
- Support of contract proposal efforts and review of customer supplied technical data
- Draw or sketch manufacturing concepts to communicate methods to fabricate structural weldments
- Communicate with welding wire (consumable) and welding equipment vendors to review, assess, procure and commission welding related equipment
- Review code of construction and customer technical requirements to provide technically accurate direction
- Manage budgets with respect to R&D budgets and production specific development efforts
- Make technical presentations to executives and customers as necessary to effectively communicate technical execution, problem resolution and other discussions
- Coordinate mechanical testing of PQRs, WPSs, WPQ and WMQs with local labs
- Make recommendations for continuous improvement of welding innovation at Aecon Nuclear
- College and/or University degree in Engineering or related field, or equivalent work experience, specifically mechanical, materials, mechatronics, welding & robotics and other such technical programs with an emphasis on welding.
- Familiarization with ASME, CWB and AWS welding codes.
- Exposure to industry welding, and manufacturing knowledge. Previous experience is an asset.
- Practical hands on experience with manufacturing tools and welding is an asset.
- Familiar with welding principles. (Basics of arc welding, types of welding etc.)
- Familiar with robotics or comparable semi-automated and mechanized machinery is an asset
- Familiar with weld development initiatives such as PQRs, WPSs, and codes of construction
- Awareness with the selection of welding consumables for fabrication
- Previous experience with basic metallurgical analysis, techniques, and technical report writing
- Previous design experience with tools, fixtures and simple rigging is an asset
- Able to produce solid models and 2D manufacturing drawings in Solidworks, Autodesk Inventor or an equivalent CAD package
- Intermediate to expert proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word
- Organizational skills to handle multiple tasks within a high-pressure environment
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral)
- Ability to work effectively with all levels of management and employees
- Willingness for continuous learning and advancement of technical knowledge
- Detail oriented and passionate
- Must possess valid G driver's license and have access to a vehicle
