ERM is hiring and Indigenous Engagement Consultant in British Columbia, Canada. This role involves delivering technical leadership for engagement and consultation programs related to regulatory processes, Indigenous Interests Assessments, and land use studies. Additionally, the position requires integrating Indigenous knowledge into environmental assessments for major capital projects to meet British Columbia (BC) and federal regulations and tracking of Indigenous engagement.The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge of the BC environmental assessment processes and proven track record working with clients to inform engagement strategies and manage engagement tracking. They will be detail oriented, recognizing connections between engagement activities completed, commitments made, and directing communication to appropriate team members on engagement outcomes. The goal is to deliver results that support the successful submission of regulatory applications. Furthermore, the candidate will possess a deep understanding of the complex Indigenous landscape in Canada, along with expertise in best practices and culturally appropriate methods for handling confidential Indigenous knowledge materials.This is a part-time (16 hours per week) limited term for a duration of 3 months, extendable.Responsibilities:Lead or Support Diverse Scopes: Engage in planning, strategy, program development, implementation, management, and reporting related to Indigenous engagement, Indigenous assessments, Indigenous knowledge, and land use studies.Support Indigenous Knowledge and Land Use Studies: Plan and support interviews, workshops, and field studies to meet regulatory requirements.Manage Indigenous Knowledge: Conduct research, plan and execute engagement with Indigenous community representatives, and compile, synthesize, and analyze information from various sources (e.g., web searches, literature reviews, interviews, surveys).Support the Design and Deliver on Engagement Programs: Strategically plan engagement programs with the engagement lead to align with regulatory timelines, and plan, deliver, and report on meetings, workshops, and stakeholder and Indigenous engagement sessions, including support for virtual meeting platforms.Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Complete accurate regulatory filing documentation in accordance with Federal and Provincial requirements.Demonstrate Strong Analytical and Communication Skills: Exhibit excellent writing and presentation skills, and mastery of impactful client communication (technical and commercial).Build Collaborative Relationships: Foster strong partnerships with ERM business partners, clients, and team members.Prepare Documentation: Assist in writing, proofreading, formatting, and preparing proposals, reports, presentations, manuals, strategies, policies, standards, and procedures.Requirements:Academic Qualifications: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Indigenous Studies, anthropology, archaeology, sociology, geography, environmental sciences, or a related discipline.Legislative Knowledge: Familiarity with Canadian federal and BC provincial legislation regarding consultation, Indigenous engagement, Indigenous land use assessments, environmental assessment, and permitting.Professional Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience related to Indigenous interests, engagement, and traditional knowledge.Relevant Experience: Academic and/or work experience with Canada’s Indigenous groups, Indigenous Knowledge, and within the resource management, environmental, or sustainability sectors.Community Engagement: Experience working with Indigenous peoples.Communication Skills: Excellent writing, communication, organization, attention to detail, and time management skills.Technical Proficiency: Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with project management tools.Prioritization: Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a demanding work environment.Interpersonal Skills: Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.Research and Analysis: Capability to conduct research, analyze data, and present results clearly and concisely.Project Management: Project management skills and experience are an asset.Professional Conduct: Adherence to organizational codes of conduct and respectful interaction with colleagues and clients.Travel: Willingness to travel to project locations.Pay Transparency:For the Indigenous Engagement Consultant position, we anticipate the annual base pay of $72,437 – $103,906, $34.82/hr – $49.95/hr USD, limited-term, non-exempt. An employee’s pay position within this range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs. We also may have instances where employee’s fall outside of the range based on the factors noted above.
