You can expect to be on the road for several weeks at a time.We're open to candidates from outside the GTA-what matters most is your willingness and ability to travel with the crew.The Milling Machine Groundperson plays a vital role in supporting milling operations by managing ground-level tasks essential to the safe and efficient removal of asphalt surfaces. This position is responsible for monitoring milling depth and slope, performing routine equipment maintenance, and communicating with machine operators and crew members. The Groundperson ensures smooth job site coordination, assists with measuring and tracking quantities, and acts as a key support to the Milling Foreperson. In their absence, the Groundperson may also serve as the primary on-site contact, helping maintain productivity and safety standards. This role is ideal for individuals who are mechanically inclined, safety-focused, and thrive in fast-paced outdoor environmentResponsibilities
  • Assist in the operation and ground-level control of the milling machine, ensuring accurate milling depth and slope
  • Monitor and evaluate the milled area, measure dimensions, and track material quantities
  • Support routine and preventative machine maintenance, including tooth changes, greasing, and general upkeep
  • Operate two-way radios and communication devices to stay in contact with machine operators and crew
  • Identify and address potential site obstacles, safety hazards, or production interruptions
  • Support clean-up activities around the machine to maintain a safe and efficient work environment
  • Fill in as crew lead in the Foreperson's absence, handling minor issues and relaying information as needed
  • Maintain accurate daily logs and reports
  • Promote, lead, and maintain a strong safety-first culture on-site at all times
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Foreperson
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred
  • 1-2 years of prior experience in road construction or Milling operations is an asset
  • Valid class “G” driver's license with a clean driver's abstract
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs
  • Experience operating in a fast-paced, high-demand environment while adhering to safety standards
  • Mechanical aptitude and experience with equipment maintenance preferred
  • Strong communication and situational awareness skills
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including lifting, standing, and working in varying weather conditions
  • Comfortable using measuring tools and completing documentation
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and night shifts as needed
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and follow direction under pressure
