The University has an annual budget in excess of $1.7 billion and attracts significant external funding.The Department of Emergency Medicine, within the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, is a growing research and education-focused Department, currently consisting of 5 Full-Time Academic Faculty and over 200 Clinical Faculty. The Department has a fully accredited Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada residency program (5 years) and it works very closely and supports the University of Alberta Department of Family Medicine's College of Family Physicians of Canada CFPC-Emergency Medicine program. The Department also offers clinical experience to medical students and residents from other training programs during their mandatory emergency medicine rotations. Research groups within the Department are heavily involved in evidence-based medicine and have produced high-quality evidence through primary research for over 25 years. For further details about our vibrant city, please visit .Responsibilities:Key accountabilities of the Assistant Professor will include, but will not be limited to leadership in the educational portfolio, educational scholarship and research theses of crisis resource management, human factors, neuroscience, mental health and quality and safety.This recruitment aims to fulfill the Department's growing educational and research priorities. This position will provide leadership in the educational portfolio. This position will primarily focus on education (and education leadership and scholarship) as a dominant theme with a substantial contribution to research. The selected candidate will be expected to support and foster development of the education portfolio in the department, including innovative curriculum development.Qualifications:The successful candidate will be a physician (MD) certified in emergency medicine by either the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC-Emergency Medicine) or the College of the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC-Emergency Medicine), and be eligible for licensure with College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA).
