Title: Director of Environmental, Health and Safety, Consumer Health CanadaLocation: Windsor, CanadaPosition Summary:Reporting to the General Manager, CH - Canada, the Director of Environmental, Health and Safety drives results in a fast-paced environment by managing the activities of personnel in the EH&S department and develops strategic plans for continuous improvement in EHS performance for the sites. This role plays a key part in driving a culture of excellence in EHS and will establish and guide site environmental, health and safety regulatory requirements, including ISO compliance. This leadership role is responsible for the development and delivery of risk mitigation strategies across the organization.The Role:
  • Lead in the promotion of culture with personnel to promote a proactive approach to health and safety. Developing proactive processes to ensure that supervisors and managers have effective resources to manage health and safety within their area(s) of responsibilities.
  • Establish, implement and maintain a risk-based system to support incident and accident prevention, ensuring that all levels of the organization understand their responsibilities in the risk assessment and control process.
  • Seek out industry best practices and more effective and efficient methods to achieve operational excellence in incident prevention, health, safety & environmental compliance and risk management.
  • Provide guidance and interpretations to staff regarding applicable industry regulations and standards (e.g. Occupational Health & Safety Act, regulations, Ontario Fire Code, CSA Standards, etc.).
  • Ensures site complies with applicable EHS regulations as well as Corporate H&S policies and programs.
  • As a member of the Site Leadership Team represents the EH&S function creating / driving EHS strategy for the site including management of EHS budget expenditures.
  • Provides technical assistance and guidance in all risk-related matters, including ergonomics, industrial hygiene, safety, environmental, incident investigation, drug free workplace, security, business resiliency and occupational health processes. Provide consultation to Operations and Engineering staff regarding health and safety assessment and control initiatives and projects.
  • Advise senior leadership team on site performance, KPIs, and EHS issues and plans for remediation.
  • Prepare, maintain and analyze site EHS statistics and reports including recommendations for improvements.
  • Liaison with other Catalent sites in sharing best practices and lead/support special interest groups and safety improvement projects as required.
  • Ensure Risk Assessments are completed for all API materials and procedures established for their safe handling during drug development work, laboratory testing and full-scale production activities.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in the safe layout design of facilities and equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with all Recordkeeping and Reporting requirements to maintain compliance with regulatory bodies.
  • Proven experience implementing effective companywide EHS and risk mitigation programs + Strong technical ability to work, collaborate and negotiate with government officials, consultants, and other third-party stakeholders.
  • Maintain accreditation of ISO14001 and OHSA 18001 with full implementation of EHS management systems.
  • Provide guidance on health and well-being programs at the sites.
  • Act as site security leader responsible for implementation of security framework including crisis management and business continuity and site security systems at both sites.
  • Perform other duties as required.
The Candidate:
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field required. Advanced degree and professional certification (CRSP/CSP, CIH, CHMM, etc.) strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience working in a EHS capacity, preferably in a unionized environment.
  • Significant related experience in an EHS leadership position preferably within a pharmaceutical industry Must have collaborative leadership skills to achieve desired results.
  • Must be able to work extended hours, weekends as needed, especially when problems occur or when deadlines must be met. Demonstrated prior leadership/management experience and ability to lead and promote safety programs while engaging employees and enabling a safe work culture.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with FDA cGMP, FMEA and Risk Analysis; knowledge of federal, state and local regulatory requirements as well as pharmaceutical industry requirements and standards.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations.
  • Proficient with database applications and administration systems, specifically Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrated prior leadership/management experience and ability to lead and promote safety programs while engaging employees and enabling a safe work culture.
  • Must be a highly motivated and team-oriented individual with an attention to detail.
  • Very strong sense of urgency with a proven record of following through to meet deadlines and commitments.
  • Confidence, with the proven ability to build credibility and strong partnerships at all levels.
  • Strong project management knowledge and skills
  • Knowledge of automation systems an asset.
