Job SummaryReporting to the Senior Project Manager, the AZ Driver/Labourer, is responsible for driving and operating large commercial vehicles such as tractor-trailers, tanker trucks, and other heavy-duty trucks safely and professionally.** Please note, this is a Union position **Responsibilities
  • Operate and drive primarily tractor-trailer, long-combination vehicle and straight-body trucks weighing over 4500kg to transport goods and materials over long distances
  • Perform pre-trip, in route and post-trip inspection of vehicle systems, equipment and accessories such as tires, lights and turning signals, brakes and cold storage.
  • Ensure cargo is secured properly in accordance with safety requirements and follow safety procedures for transporting dangerous goods.
  • Administer and maintain vehicle log book
  • Work effectively with supervisors and all members of the crew to ensure the successful installation and/or repair of roadside safety devices, fence, signs, and noise barriers
  • Follow all directions and instructions provided by Supervisors and Management.
  • Ensure the site and vehicles are left clean at the end of each shift.
  • Ensure working tools are used properly, treated with care and returned. Report any issues to the Supervisor.
  • Accountable for proper and timely reporting of accidents, near misses, and first aid,
  • and any incidents to the Supervisor or Health and Safety Coordinator
  • Health & Safety Conscious, ensuring safety and emergency procedures are followed
  • Willingness to do some site clean-up, and during downtimes, complete yard work
  • Other labourer duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Valid A commercial driver's license with Air brake endorsements (Z) is required.
  • 1+ years working in a physical labour position and/or outdoor construction experience preferred.
  • Completion of secondary school is an asset
  • Able to work outside in all types of weather and terrain.
  • Must be reliable, punctual, and responsible.
  • Physically fit and able to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to work out of town, approximately 30-50% travel - must be available for long hours and overnight stays.
  • Energetic, a team player who can work well with others as well as be self-directed and work independently
  • Ability and willingness to perform a wide variety of jobs and duties as assigned.
  • Must have transportation to get to/from our Ottawa yard (transportation to/from job sites will be provided from there)
