The Opportunity:
The Technical Services Manager is responsible for provision of effective technical support to achieve mining operational performance in line with the client's targets on their mine site in west Africa.What You'll Be Doing:
  • Ensure all mine technical service activities are conducted in a safe and effective manner by appropriately trained personnel;
  • Develop and review strategic mine plans for quarterly forecasts, annual mine budgets and Life of Mine (LOM) plans consistent with maximising economic value of mine resources. Identify and assess threats, opportunities within strategic plans;
  • Provide framework (output requirements, quality / timeliness standards, prioritisation, operating procedures, resourcing, budgets, etc.) for technical sections for both immediate support of mining operations and future mining activities;
  • Monitor the effectiveness of technical support provided to Mining operational performance to ensure compliance with regulations, production targets and economic performance;
  • Identify and address deficiencies in technical knowledge (rock mass structural & geochemical properties, mineralisation, surface / groundwater volumes, production & cost modelling, production monitoring, data management, etc.) associated with mining of mine resources;
  • Train and develop multi-national technical services personnel;
What You'll Need to Be Successful:
  • Large open pit hard rock mine experience essential, preferably in a multi pit operating environment.
  • 15+ years of experience in mining technical discipline(s), including 5+ years in a senior management (e.g. head of section) role and 3+ years expatriate experience.
  • Familiarity with technical and practical aspects of load & haul operations, drill & blast operations, production supervision, production scheduling, pit design, waste dump design, waste dump construction, grade control practices, geotechnical monitoring, mine survey, surface & groundwater management, and fleet management systems.
  • An understanding of environmental issues associated with mining (Acid Rock Drainage, erosion control, sediment control, discharge water quality, etc.) and control measures.
  • Proficient user of mining CAD related software (familiarity with Deswik, MineSight viewed positively).
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office software products (Excel, Power BI, Word, Power Point, etc.).
  • Previous exposure to subcontract management and the direction of external consultants involved in technical studies or project support.
