Position SummaryThe Faculty of Social Work at the University of Regina invites applications for one Sessional Lecturer to teach the following in-person (Regina) course during the Fall 2026 semester:SW 390 - Communication Skills in Social Work Practice
This course specifically focuses on the development of skills necessary for competent social work communication in a variety of social work roles and settings. An introduction to communication theory is provided with an emphasis on skill development for students. Role plays and recorded sessions are required.The semester class period is from September 1, 2026 to December 22, 2026 with the final exam period running from December 9 - 22, 2026.Sessional Lecturers that are teaching in-person classes are expected to teach 13 synchronous classes throughout the semester in-person on campus.Expectations for Sessional Lecturers include, but aren't limited to, the following:
- Preparing the course outline, designing relevant assignments, evaluating and grading student work, and submitting student grades by the required deadline.
- Teaching course content that follows the course description, established learning objectives, and university academic guidelines.
- Delivering 13 lectures throughout the semester.
- Encouraging and maintaining a safe and collaborative classroom environment.
- Providing regular support to students on course work during office hours, and as required by students.
- Consulting with the Associate Dean (Undergraduate Programs) on academic or student- related matters as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Master of Social Work (MSW)
- Demonstrated related experience appropriate to the course content description as listed above;
- Superior communications skills (both written and verbal);
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail;
- Recent teaching experience in a post-secondary environment is considered an asset.

Work HoursThis course is offered on Thursday's 19:00 - 21:45 The Sessional Lecturer is expected to teach on campus in-person in Regina (synchronous) for each of the 13 lectures, be in the classroom 10-15 minutes before each class starts, as well as offer regular office hours for their students each week.Delivery method, days and times are subject to change.
