Join us on our journey to build a sustainable future, together.About the JobWe are looking for a Horticultural Technician at our Walker Gro-Bark Office & Processing Facility in Caledon, ON. Reporting to the Director-Product-Soil & Mulch, this position will work as part of a highly communicative network comprising of multiple production facilities with the ultimate objective of ensuring superior quality horticulture products reach the market in a timely manner. The Horticultural Technician will use analytical, data-driven methods for the development of experimental and research strategies and will communicate results in a clear and effective manner that facilitates and supports practical applications and product development. Responsibilities will include undertaking monthly testing at customer sites, creating test blends and performing tests to examine the physical and chemical properties of soils and growing media. The incumbent will also support the design and execution of field and laboratory research trials and product development projects within the Product Management Group. This is a permanent, full-time position working Monday-Friday. The salary range is between $65,000-$73,000 based on qualifications and experience.What you will be doingPerform weekly and bi-weekly tests on soil and mulch products including but not limited to; pH/EC analysis, moisture content, particle size distribution, porosity, and bulk density in compliance with company protocols.Maintain Laboratory using good workplace housekeeping practices, maintain and calibrate laboratory and testing equipment, and inventory management of consumables.Provide administrative support for our Quality Management System, which includes maintaining detailed records and ensuring products meet required specifications.Provide support to the other members of the product team, which includes experimental setup, troubleshooting, data collection and analysis, reporting and horticultural duties as required.Travel to other Gro-Bark and Walker sites as needed to sample and test soil and mulch products.Comply with all regulatory requirements (Ministry of Environment) and company policies/procedures as they pertain to this position.Here's What You NeedBachelor's degree or higher in Horticulture, Biochemistry, Soil Science or a related field.2-5 years experience working in horticulture or agriculture. * A working knowledge of experimental design and statistical analysis.
  • The ability to identify trends and causal relationships based on data.
  • Must possess a valid G-Class Driver's License.
  • Must be able to lift up to (fifty) 50 pounds.
  • Willingness to travel on an occasional basis to visit growers, customers and attend trade shows throughout Ontario.
