The Director of Accounting will partner with senior leadership to support decision-making, manage risk, and enhance profitability in a high-volume, asset-intensive, and highly regulated industry.Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Leadership & StrategyDirect and oversee the accounting department, including accounts payable, general ledger and tax functions.Provide accurate and timely financial reporting to senior management and external stakeholders.Support strategic decision-making through analysis of profitability, cash flow, and financial forecasts.Ensure alignment of accounting practices with the company’s strategic and operational goals.Developing and maintaining accounting policies and procedures to ensure efficiency and consistency in financial operations.Compliance, Audit, and Risk ManagementCoordinate monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, ensuring compliance with IFRS.Reconciling cash accounts with bank statements to ensure accuracy, identify discrepancies, and resolve any issues in a timely manner.Together with our outsourced tax expert, ensure compliance with local, provincial, and federal tax regulations. Preparing and filing tax returns and coordinating with external auditors and tax consultants.Technology & Process ImprovementOversee financial systems (ERP, fuel management/accounting software, dispatch and logistics systems) to ensure integration and accuracy.Drive automation and process improvements in financial reporting and compliance functions.Leadership & Team DevelopmentManage and mentor accounting staff, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.Establish clear performance goals and provide professional development opportunities.Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, HR, IT and sales to support the business with accurate financial insights.QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration8+ years of experience in progressive finance leadership roles2+ years leadership experienceCPA DesignationStrong communications, technology, analytical and management skillsKnowledge of NetSuite and/or IFRSKnowledge of Canadian tax and reporting complianceKnowledge & SkillsAbility to work in a fast-paced environmentEnergetic, passionate individual, who is able to clearly articulates ideas, opinions and information and able to make data-driven decisionsWorks effectively with others to achieve positive resultsSummarizes information concisely and clearly identifies key elements, patterns, results or relationships; utilizes data to draw conclusions and make fact-based decisionsCoordinates and organizes resources and people in efficient and effective ways to accomplish larger strategies and goalsProvides direct, honest and fair feedback and related actionsBilingual English/French speaking is an assetAvenir Energy is committed to accommodating applicants with disabilities throughout the hiring process.
