- Oversees the strategic management and performance of the Energy Optimization Program.
- Supports the ongoing intake of energy cost, consumption and performance data into real-time client facing dashboards to support decision making Identifies opportunities for specific energy saving measures in client buildings leveraging energy consumption, energy cost, equipment, and capital planning data.
- Reviews consultant reports (energy audits, feasibility studies, retro commissioning, etc.) and makes recommendations based on findings. Supports the project management team in the execution and delivery of energy and carbon reduction projects.
- Supports the projects team for all Sustainability related initiatives.
- Facilitates client, building operator and Facility managers communication and engagement.
- Develops energy savings calculations based on specific measures or broad portfolio efficiency estimates for business case development and planning.
- Supports the consultant and contractor throughout the feasibility study, design development, tendering, construction and commissioning phases of energy retrofit projects.
- Develops business cases on individual facilities and projects for planning client approval to achieve both energy and carbon reductions.
- Reviews building performance benchmark indices reports and summarize findings on a quarterly basis.
- Maintains a building improvement tracking system of top cost/energy anomalies. Conducts desktop analysis to direct further action for resolving deteriorating energy performance.
- Defines processes to identify, assess and prioritize energy savings project opportunities, employing quantitative utility data analysis.
- Performs site visits and engages with operations team to understand building operations and identify potential opportunities.
- Participates in the development of the annual Energy & GHG management plan.
- Develops and lead FM Engagement program with the purpose of: Identifying, implementing and tracking energy saving challenges and opportunities.
- Conducts monthly meeting to engage/educate the Facility Managers for energy awareness and continue to expand engagement.
- Works closely with BAS dashboard and building technicians to ensure continuous commissioning and energy performance improvement of building systems.
- Monitors energy retrofit project performance and intervene/investigate when systems are under-performing.
- Executes standard energy and sustainability reporting and analysis, including guaranteed savings analysis and reporting.
- Assists with building GHG reduction scenarios modelling.
- Leverages energy information resources to address ad-hoc client information requests and special energy analysis.
- Diagnoses energy consumption variances.
- Implements, maintains, and report measurement and verification procedures.
- Carries out energy price escalation analysis and provides cost variance explanations.
- Supports and develops ongoing monitoring functions of efficiency improvement measures.
- Participates and reviews water and waste audit data for future action.
- Participates in annual utility budget forecasting and ensure the integrity of the utility data validation process.
- Reviews any cost issues escalated from the Utility Management team, including build analytical processes under the guidance to identify tariff optimization opportunities.
- Technologist diploma or University degree, Engineering related area and/or in environmental management, environmental science or energy and building system technology.
- 5 - 10years of energy and sustainability reporting and analysis work experience, and delivering energy retrofit projects in facilities.
- Expert level analytical and problem-solving skills, especially in building scenario modelling using spreadsheets.
- Advanced skills in MS Excel required.
- Strong MS Word and Power Point skills required.
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships with project managers, property managers, building technicians, consultants and contractors.
- Previous experience in energy management, with familiarity in mechanical (HVAC) systems, lighting systems, building envelop, metering and performance benchmarking.
- Knowledge with water conservation measures and waste minimization for commercial buildings an asset.
- Experience working with building controls systems (BAS) (Writing HVAC sequences of operations is an asset but not required)
- Experience with energy saving calculations and business case development for mechanical and electrical systems related to commercial buildings. Appreciation of financial reporting requirements.
- Advanced knowledge of utility tariff structures (across Canada preferred but not required), including Ontario global adjustment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of greenhouse gas reporting systems and issues including applicable protocols, GHG inventory calculation and boundary considerations.
- Experience with weather correction calculations and baseline adjustment, error diagnostics, measurement & verification protocols.
- Project management experience considered an asset.
- Certified Energy Manager and/or Certified Measurement & Verification Professional from Association of Energy Engineers, an asset.
- LEED certification, an asset.
- Experience with RETScreen Expert Performance Analysis and Feasibility Analysis, and other energy modelling software is an asset.
