- Ensure accountability of overall execution of the disciplined program, leading all proposal/acquisition delivery within the program, tracking and supporting project delivery, minding adherence to project schedules and budgets and delivering strong project financial performance.
- Senior support for major projects within the discipline, acting as Project Director where appropriate, targeting a utilization of 50% or better annually.
- Developing and winning new work within the discipline, leveraging internal connections within WSP, cross-sector relationships, Regional and Sub-Sector Market Leaders and the Canadian Client Program, along with private client relationships and public tender to grow the business within the discipline.
- Lead, mentor, coach, and develop the project management teams and technical leads, and build or expand these teams as required by the discipline business
- Manage stakeholders, including resolution of disputes, escalated project issues, expectations on objectives (team, client, and senior leadership), scopes and deliverables, negotiation of change, reporting to senior leadership, and representing the company at client meetings
- Actively promotes the company's safety culture and core values and accountable for the H&S performance of projects within the program
- Solve complex problems requiring an understanding of social, political, and cultural issues as well as technical and business issues; exercises broad, mature judgment in developing innovative solutions
- Ensure focus is maintained on critical project delivery areas: estimating, forecasting, risk management, and change management.
- Maintain and grow positive relationship with clients
- Ensure that there is coordination and connection across multiple projects within the program and across all Canadian programs to manage activities of matrixed, multi-discipline project teams
- Work with all other Program Directors to ensure that staffing levels are appropriate to achieve the project schedule commitments and to ensure personnel with appropriate skills are assigned to projects in EEAS nationally
- Extensive experience in heavy civil construction and project management;
- 10+ years of experience successfully delivering environmental/construction projects;
- 5+ years of experience in an operations leadership role, managing multi-discipline teams;
- Overall program execution and management experience
- A demonstrable track record of strong client engagement and performance management;
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent is preferred
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science or Commerce or equivalent combination of education and work experience
- Excellent communicator and expert in stakeholder management. Must have experience in managing challenging stakeholders and able to coach and advise others in this area
- Exceptional interpersonal and negotiation skills, with the ability to handle sensitive communications
- Must be competent in the use of computer software applications used for project control and administration, including Microsoft: Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Must have ability to travel nationally as required
- Must have authorization to lawfully work in Canada without sponsorship from WSP.
