Position Title: Urban Planning TechnicianPosition Summary:As an Urban Planning Technician, you will assist Urban Strategies' team of Planners, Urban Designers and Graphic Designers with mapping, zoning analysis and research, preparing development application materials, data collection and analysis, and other technical and administrative tasks.Location: Toronto or Hamilton. Minimum 3 days in office.Responsibilities:· Under the guidance of Project Leadership, work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to meet project goals.· Support the analysis and summarization of policy documents, zoning-by-laws and background studies.· Research, summarize and map development activity.· Prepare mapping and other graphics for planning applications including zoning bylaw maps, plans of subdivision and materials for committee of adjustment applications.· Provide technical assistance and information to staff regarding planning regulations.· Prepare maps, charts and tables for presentations, panels and reports and generally assist in the preparation of materials for communication with clients and project stakeholders.· Review technical plans (e.g. architectural and landscape) for planning applications to ensure compliance with municipal terms of references.· Research statistics, historical precedents, survey information and other data.· Read, understand, and interpret complex technical policies and procedures.Skills & Qualifications:Essential:· Completion of a Planning Technician program· Experience using Adobe Creative Suite, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, and Sketch-Up.· A solid understanding of MS Office, notably with PowerPoint.· Demonstrated strong knowledge of planning policy and regulatory tools in Ontario, including the Provincial Policy Statement, the Growth Plan, official plans and zoning by-laws.· Work independently and exercise judgement on specific tasks to support the overall project team.· Able to connect, engage and influence with strong analytical skills.· Demonstrate strong organizational skills.· Communicate clearly, professionally, and persuasively, both orally and in writing.· Adapt and respond to a dynamic and fast-paced work environment.· Quality control and troubleshooting of project work.Desirable:· At least 1 year of working experience.· Skills and experience in advanced data mapping, management, and analysis.· Fluency in French or Mandarin is considered an asset, but not essential.Urban Strategies is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
