Title: BaristaDepartment: Agriculture, Community DevelopmentStatus: Term Part-time (40 hours to 55 hours bi-weekly)Start Date: April 1, 2026End Date: October 31, 2026Pay Grid: Salary Range 1 ($22.86 to $30.00 per hour)Reporting to: Farm & Food Integration Manager/ Director of Community DevelopmentSummary of Duties:Reporting to the Farm & Food Integration Manager, the Barista – Qwalimak Coffee supports the Agriculture team by operating the seasonal coffee trailer and delivering quality beverage and food service to customers. The position is responsible for customer service, food and beverage preparation, cash handling, sanitation, and supporting efficient daily operations. The Barista may also assist with related farm duties and special events as required.The coffee trailer operates primarily on the Qwalimak Nlepcalten, with weekly farmers’ markets and occasional pop-up events. This role is best suited to an individual who is dependable, service-oriented, and able to work effectively in an outdoor environment with minimal supervision.Key Deliverables and Expectations:
  • Prepare and serve coffee, beverages, and food items in accordance with established quality and service standards.
  • Provide courteous, professional, and responsive customer service.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary work environment in accordance with food safety requirements.
  • Complete opening and closing duties as assigned.
  • Prepare end-of-day cash reports and handle cash accurately.
  • Support the daily operation of the coffee trailer, including working independently when required.
  • Assist with setup, take-down, and operational readiness for farmers’ markets, pop-up events, and regular service days.
  • Follow all health, safety, food handling, and operational procedures.
  • Work a variety of shifts, which may include weekends.
  • Assist with other farm or agriculture-related duties as required.
Experience and Attributes:
  • Valid Food Safe certification, or willingness to acquire.
  • Food preservation experience is an asset.
  • 1-2 years of experience working in a commercial kitchen environment is an asset.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to prepare food and beverages with care and consistency.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a small team.
  • Good organization, time management, and multitasking skills.
  • Accurate cash handling and daily reporting.
  • Able to adapt to changing schedules and operational needs.
  • Previous barista, food service, or restaurant experience is an asset.
  • Food Safe certification is an asset or willingness to obtain.
  • May be required to open or close independently.
  • May assist with other Agriculture team duties as needed.
  • Work is primarily in a coffee trailer located on farmland.
  • Outdoor work in varied weather conditions, including heat and insects.
  • Standing for long periods and lifting up to 50 pounds is required.
  • Strong organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail and time management skills.
  • Must be able to supply a clear criminal record check to work with children & vulnerable adults.
