Solen is backed by a group of advisors and investors that have built software businesses of material scale ($10-$100M in ARR) and advised many others.About the role: The Financial Controller plays a critical role in managing the accounting functions across our portfolio, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and driving efficiency in our month-end close processes. This individual will be responsible for establishing and maintaining strong accounting policies, supporting financial integrations of newly acquired entities, and building a scalable finance function as we grow. The ideal candidate will be a proactive problem solver who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and is comfortable wearing multiple hats to support our growing portfolio.The successful candidate will work from Toronto, Canada / hybrid mode (2x times per week).Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the month-end financial close process across all portfolio companies, driving faster and more efficient close cycles while ensuring financial accuracy and compliance.
- Serve as the key decision-maker for all accounting policies, ensuring compliance with GAAP and relevant regulatory standards.
- Hire, train, and develop the accounting team to support the Solen's continued expansion. Ensure that the accounting team scales and can support accounting and financial operations as the portfolio grows through M&A.
- Support the financial integration of new acquisitions, including their accounting systems, financial reporting, and operational alignment with Solen Software Group's standards.
- Perform Quality of Earnings (QoE) financial due diligence on potential acquisition targets. Validate financial results and EBITDA for targets.
- Work closely with executive leadership to provide financial insights and data-driven recommendations that inform strategic decisions.
- Develop and implement scalable financial controls and processes to support the company's rapid growth.
- Ensure the accuracy of financial reports and key SaaS metrics such as ARR, churn, LTV, and gross margin, providing actionable insights to drive company performance.
- Collaborate with operations, legal, and finance teams to ensure smooth integration and transitions post-acquisition.
- Implement a systems-thinking approach to ensure data accuracy and consistency within the ERP and accounting platforms.
- Oversee all accounting processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and consistency across all entities.
- 5-10 years of experience in a senior accounting or audit role, must have experience within the SaaS and purchase price accounting experience.
- Must have experience with Sage Intacct or NetSuite and SMB accounting systems like QuickBooks Online (QBO).
- Prior experience in a private equity-backed company, with an understanding of financial reporting and investor expectations.
- Deep understanding of SaaS business models and key financial metrics, with experience in revenue recognition and subscription-based financial reporting.
- Proven ability to lead, mentor, and scale an accounting function in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret financial data to drive business performance.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and team-building skills.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- CPA or CMA designation is preferred but not required
- English is mandatory.
