- Patrol critical areas to spot any suspicious activity
- Check identification and control access to secure areas
- React quickly to threats or incidents and document actions taken
- Check the proper functioning of alarms and cameras
- Handle alarms and conduct on-site checks
- Partner with law enforcement during serious incidents
- Proactively patrol the University campus situated in the downtown core.
- Respond to and document security occurrences, violations, hazards, suspicious activities, maintenance-related problems and other related duties as assigned.
- Participate in on-scene emergency response.
- Interpret and enforce the Criminal Code of Canada, Trespass to Property Act of Ontario and University regulations.
- Work with the community on safety planning and community engagement initiatives.
- Patrol in uniform by foot, bike or vehicle.
- Work with and interact positively in a dynamic team atmosphere based on the principles of Community Policing.
- Liaise and build relationships with the community and stakeholders to help foster community engagement.
- Other duties: This position will assume other duties as assigned on a case-by-case basis that may not be captured here.
- Be authorized to work in Canada
- Hold a valid Ontario security license
- Ability to stand and walk throughout shift
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR level C certification
- Completion of recognized basic self-defence training program, Criminal Code and Trespass to Property Act powers of arrest.
- Will have proven attitude and performance attributes indicative of a community policing environment.
- Be a self-starter with strong initiative.
- Have a related College Diploma or relative experience
- Will have a proven ability to assist and support personnel and divisions.
- Be able to organize and prioritize multiple tasks & responsibilities.
