Job DescriptionOverviewCanAtom, a joint venture between AtkinsRéalis and Aecon, is delivering the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station Refurbishment Project under a collaborative contract with Ontario Power Generation. The joint venture is underway to complete the retube, feeder, and boiler replacement (RFBR) of Units 5–8. Building on the successful delivery of the Darlington Refurbishment Project, the CanAtom team brings proven experience in safely executing complex nuclear projects on time and on budget to support Ontario’s clean energy future.The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Lead Advisor reports to the EHS & HU Director and is responsible for providing health and safety advice and assistance to the projects Line Supervisors. The Lead EHS Advisor will be responsible for supervising a small team of EHS Advisors that will be engaged in the development, implementation, and auditing of the Safety Program for the Projects.Your role
  • With guidance, provide leadership and direction to the EHS Advisors and line management in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of EHS management systems and processes.
  • Oversee and develop Employee environment, health and safety orientation and Site-specific environment, health and safety orientation to workers, owners, and clients.
  • Mentor supervisors and staff on Aecon Health, Safety and Environmental Manual.
  • Ensure that such critical systems to the EHS Management System, such as FMEA, JHA’s, JARR cards, Observations, Inspections, and audits are completed as required on the projects.
  • Ensure effective risk mitigation plans are in place such as environmental management, emergency preparedness/response plans, communication plans. are continuously developed, maintained, and implemented properly.
  • Oversee, monitor, conduct and facilitate observation and coaching and inspections in the workplace.
  • Develop and facilitate EHS presentations to clients.
  • Participate in the Joint Health and Safety Committees.
  • Ensure accidents/incidents are recognized and investigated in a timely manner by providing leadership and direction in all facets of training, reporting, investigation, and analysis.
  • Provide measures of loss and risk management improvement through accident/incident trend analysis to support annual performance targets.
  • Work with the Environmental representative to ensure environmental risks are identified and addressed in the Environment Management Plan and the plan is executed accordingly.
About you
  • Relevant Post-Secondary education or equivalent experience in the Health and Safety field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Health and Safety within the nuclear or construction industry.
  • Possession of or work towards a designation such as Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or Certificate of Recognition (COR) Auditor and National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Construction projects with a solid understanding of the Occupation Health and Safety Act (“OHSA”) and other relevant regulations and legislations required.
  • Incident Investigation training/experience considered an asset.
  • Ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy, excellent verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Current Security clearance at Bruce Power or OPG is an asset.
