
Environmental Coordinator

- A six-kilometer tunnel and associated tunnelling works from Exhibition to Don Yard portal (west of the Don River).
- Stations:
- One above-ground station to be integrated with the existing GO Transit Exhibition Station.
- Two underground stations to be integrated with the existing TTC Osgoode and Queen subway stations.
- Four new underground stations (King/Bathurst, Queen/Spadina, Moss Park, Corktown).
- Improve the quality of life for commuters by reducing daily travel time.
- Reduce crowding on the existing Line 1 (Yonge-University) subway.
- Up to 57,000 more jobs accessible by transit (in 45 minutes or less) for Toronto residents.
- Economic and community growth along the future transit line and thousands of job opportunities annually during construction.
- Reduction in traffic congestion, greenhouse gases, and fuel consumption by providing an alternative transportation option.
- Acts as a resource to project construction staff by providing advice in the determination of information requirements and reviewing reports.
- Assists the Environmental Manager(s) with the monitoring of contingencies, contract budgets, change notices and change orders. Reviews progress and recommends progress draws for payment. Prepares detailed financial reporting of project status from planning through to completion.
- Co-ordinates and attends site meetings and project team/client meetings as needed and updates the Environmental Manager.
- Coordinates with the Senior Environmental Compliance Officer and Environmental Inspectors to issue deficiency lists and prepares construction/project forms and documents. Tracks completion of corrective actions within specified cure time.
- Assists with tracking of Environmental Management Plan and Sustainability Management Plan and associated project Environmental Management Plans compliance, tracking of metrics, and associated reporting.
- Knowledge of relevant federal and provincial environmental policies, procedures and legislation.
- Responsibilities may be adjusted based on the evolving needs of the business.
- Compiles and maintains reference files on environmental reports, audits, risk assessments, testing requests, and invoicing details. Responds to the various departments by providing information on environmental issues.
- Monitors and assesses environmental issues by conducting literature reviews, and inspections to assist the Environmental Manager(s) and Environmental Compliance Officer, and project responsible persons with planning, implementing and follow up of projects, develops work schedules and identifies priorities for environmental issues.
- Investigates inquiries and/or complaints from project/stakeholders/client, staff, elected officials and the general public.
- Conduct regular inspections of construction sites to identify and address environmental compliance issues, including erosion control, sedimentation, waste management, and hazardous material handling.
- A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in planning, environmental planning, environmental science, geography, engineering or another related discipline.
- Knowledge of the Province of Ontario’s Transit Project Assessment Process, GO Transit Class EA Document, and Environmental Assessment Act (Ontario).
- Knowledge of relevant federal and provincial environmental policies, procedures and legislation.
- Experience in the methods and techniques of Environmental Site Assessments, Remediation Processes, Risk Assessments, Certificates of Property Use, Record of Site Condition approvals, and Waste Management.
- Excellent writing skills and awareness of other communication tools.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work cooperatively with others in a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience testing to evaluate a project site and contents of a factual data and recommendations report for geo-environmental and geotechnical engineering or geoscience, hydrogeology, and pavement design.
- Knowledge of Ontario Statutes, including Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- One to three years of experience in managing Environmental Aspects of transportation (preferably transit) projects in the Province of Ontario.
- Extensive knowledge of the Project Management Process, and project coordination.
- Knowledge of required testing to evaluate a project site and contents of a factual data and recommendations report for geo-environmental and geotechnical engineering or geoscience, hydrogeology, and pavement design.
- Extensive knowledge of the Project Management Process, and project coordination.
- Ability to work independently, to set priorities, plan and execute a variety of tasks in order to meet deadlines.
